Who knows how much he would have averaged had he not been captain ? :hysterical:
Yeah, Bradman would be turning in his grave at the thought of Dhoni not captaining. BTW, what did he average when he was not captain? :hysterical:

Why couldn't Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly take India to no.1 position and World cup victory as captain .

I dont think a mediocre keeper can maintain the record of 224 dismissals in Tests & 265 dismissal in ODIs...that just impossible if you are mediocre... and that too with playing most of the matches in subcontinent where u dont have luxury of taking plenty of caught behinds of fast bowlers like you see in Eng, Aus or SA...

Dhoni is an overachiever with regards to his talent. He has achieved things which most more talented wk/batsman than him would love to achieve.
Agree with this.

Outy is making this point of MS being a mediocre keeper in quite a few threads, yet i dont recall him dropping any catches.Maybe he is not a healy or boucher, but he does a decent job with catching and is excellent when it comes to stumping

If I'm not wrong then, he wasn't best batsman even in his state teams which hardly produce international cricketers.

That happens more often in his case than any other wicketkeeper.

Not really a quantifiable thing is it?Though i think its bcoz sometimes he stands a bit too back, rather than a lack of athleticism

Dhoni is definitely not the best WK India has had in terms of WK skills. But, any argument which tries to slice & dice aspects of the game must take into account that the whole is not merely the sum of the parts.

That's what we have - his words or his interpretation of things :haha: "More better than Dhoni" bandwagoners clutching at whatever straws they can lay their hands on and in some cases inventing stuff like "If Dhoni had stood closer to stumps in the 43rd over of the 2nd Test against England he would have been in a position to dive for a catch" I am sure these guys have done extensive analysis on the drops/chances given/how far wk stood for all the other intl wks :haha:

That and during the England and Australian tours he was standing so far back that many chances dropped short of the slips. There is something seriously wrong if that is happening regularly in Australia.

I have seen the ball going between MS and first slip, but not so much as to automatically term him mediocre, same thing goes for standing back too it happens some times but to fixate on that and ignore everything else:facepalm:

There may have been certain instances were MS Dhoni has allowed to let catches go through but have not other keepers dropp catches? Prior dropped catches during India's tour od England 2007. I also remember Boucher dropping Hussain in the famous Atherton-Donald Trent Bridge Test match. Gilchrist dropped a few catches too. Rod Marsh of all people was nick named "Iron Gloves". So this entire point of dropping catches seems moot to me. Also, equating Dhoni's keeping skills to Dravid and using that to draw further inferences makes sense in some far away parallel universe of Deepak Chopra.
