Can ashwin be tried as opener in Tests?

I am pleasently surprised by the class and technique shown by ashwin from last few test macthes. He seems to have lot of time when facing pace bowlers. There isn't too much fuss when on the crease. He does look to me as someone who keeps the game simple. Sometimes, he remind of laxman as far as lazyniess, style, technque and also clamness. Don't make any mistake, i am not comparing the class yet. Since, sehwag willing to move down the order and ashwin already had some experience as opener, it shouldn't be a bad idea to try it out. If it works out, nothing like it. If it doesn't, then swtich back to sehwag- gambo pair........

He certainly has more class and talent then Bradmanath, Tiwary, he is more useful for us as our strike bowler and lower down the order, we don't wanna mess with him like Irfan.

Let him focus on his bowling and not over-burden him as a full time batsman, let alone even as an opener. This whole concept is brainless. We killed Irfan Pathan because of his batting by overloading expectations on him to be the next Kapil Dev like all-rounder. Guy is now a bits and pieces player as a result from a promising fast bowler. Ashwin's good batting is a plus as it makes the lower order stronger and he has shown he can bat in pressure. It means we won't have a choking tail. It makes our batting deep. He can slowly develop into an all-rounder in his due time without the added pressure. We need more 5 wicket hauls from him than 100s as a bat for now. :king: Look at what happened to Bhajji after he got those huge 100s against NZ. He started thinking of himself as a batsman and forgot his bowling. LOL!:haha:

Just the thoughts I had. Its a co-incidence I was thinking I Pathan too when this ridiculous suggestion came up her.

I agree with most of the guys on this thread. Having guys like Irfan and Ashwin towards the bottom of the order is always a good bonus and can sometimes make the difference required to win the match. No point sending them down and messing with their game. It's as important to have a decent lower order as it is to have a strong top order. Sometimes you lose early wickets and it's good to know that the bottom order batsmen will be able to put on something respectable.
