Man, this is getting too much for me to take. Here's the latest for those not in the know.

I pay all the taxes that are legally required and not a dollar more, he said. I don't think you want someone as the candidate for president who pays more taxes than he owes.
And then: Brad Plumer thinks it's kind of weird that, by only reporting $2.25 million of his $4 million in charity for deduction, Romney paid more in taxes than he needed to: [if he had claimed the full $4 million, it] would have conflicted with his statement in August that he has paid at least 13 percent the past ten years. So Romney opted to limit his charitable deduction to just $2.25 million, essentially agreeing to pay the government more in taxes than he needed to. In the end, Romney had an effective federal tax rate of 14.1 percent. http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/09/romneys-tax-surprise.html

Btw he is using my strategy, upon getting results in school I would tell my dad the worst score first and then gradually go to the best score so he remembers the best score and I think he is trying the same strategy, from blaming half the population now he is saying look I pay at least 14%, I wonder what's coming next

I get to keep 0.75. If I donated 0.50, the govt gets 0.125. I get to keep only 0.375, but the poor govt gets only 0.125. Oh, the horror!! If I donated 0.50, but said I donated only 0.25, the govt gets 0.150. I get to keep only 0.350. Oh, double the horror!! In other words, it's worse to give to charity than to give to the govt. It's even worse to give to charity, say you didn't give as much as you did, and pay the govt more and keep less. How terribly greedy, stupid and horrible. I am getting dizzy from all the spin coming from this board.

You missed the most important part, the one that is bolded. Do you not think you got a helping hand from someone to make that one dollar to begin with?

The horror is that he has money in overseas banks to save tax and he is the same person who said he won't pay one dollar more in tax unless he has to, we all know he claimed half as he wants tax rate to be high and going by his statement about not paying extra I'm sure he will claim it next year. The spin is what this guy if feeding the republicans.

Which is why I may choose to donate more of it than to share more of it with the govt. How can that be bad? Is govt the most benevolent of all organizations that they deserve more of my money than a charity? :insert head-scratcher smiley here:

Now, that's a different point. We are talking charitable contributions here. If he donates more, he keeps less of his money. The guy has donated 25 - 30% of his earnings. I am not sure how one can turn that into something bad. Honestly, would you be berating Obama for donating more and claiming less? Nah ... you'd be holding him up as a hero of some sort.

Are sure he won't claim it next year ? No one has an issue about claiming deductions for charity but after saying that he thinks its stupid not to claim max deductions and then claiming it means either he is stupid or will claim next year. Either way it doesn't do any good for his image.

Get back with me when you find out he does.

If he declares that he does it often, he always donates more and claims less then ill respect him for that but we all know his thoughts about claiming all possible deductions so this is just a stupid act. Well I donate what I think is right and he is free to do what he wants with his money. It's a good thing that he donated but to twist tax return to show that he donates to charity as well as govt is hard to believe

This is not the quality of benevolence that we are talking about. This is math. You're a faculty of higher education, you school pays you. Where do they get the money from? From the students who pay the tuition fees. And many of those tuition fees are funded via loans, sponsored by the govt.. Your school can be assured of a steady income stream from its students because the students have all the conditions that is necessary to keep enabling them to attend school - Good infrastructure that helps them travel to school, safe environment that is assured by local law enforcement and a stable income - many of the students' parents are govt. employees - at home that helps them pay their tuition. Nobody, i mean NOBODY, becomes wealthy themselves. We can debate about the extent of the external help that is needed to accumulate wealth, but its a stable system - partly under-written by the local and federal govt - that helps people become wealthy.

And you can only prove your point if you can show that he has done the same in the past too :dontknow: so please show me his prior tax returns Or you think he is not fit for being president going by his own statement of paying more tax than he absolutely has to or is he just stupid ?
