Magneto Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Might not be a huge success but deserves a change in Test over Raina any day. There is no harm in trying him. 'A' tours don't tell us the whole story. Those were pretty tough conditions for batsmen aswell. My point is I don't see a reason why Rohit will succeed. He has travelled so much, been to virtually all Test-playing countries, been part of the team for 5 years, knows all conditions and still fails to score runs in any format. Giving the same number of opportunities to another player might bear fruit. Or maybe Rohit needs to be given 10-15 Tests, where he'll score a couple of 50s and bow out with a 20+ average eventually. Better to send him back to the grind of domestic cricket and try and fix whatever ails him and let him work on each and every aspect. When playing for India he'll be always under pressure, and will no way be able to improve himself. In the meantime, we try out another guy at No.6 position who has scored in domestics/A tours/ODIs, in case Raina fails again against England.

He failed in the tour games in Australia and also against WI-A. (One 50+ score in ten innings(both tours put together), if I remember correctly) If he cannot score against 'A' level bowlers, I have very little hope for him against proper attacks in Tests. He did score 100 against Australia in India in tour game along with Kohli. Please remind how many 50s were hit by other batsmen apart form Pujara in FC matches in WI.
rkt.india Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 The question remains though - whom would Rohit Sharma play for in the current setup? Gambhir/Sehwag or Pujara? No way - even if Gambhir is dropped I would give Rahane a chance and not Rohit. What about in place of Raina in tests?
