one way to tell how quick a bowler is by the way the keeper takes the ball you can see in the thompson video palms upwards fingers ponting to the sky that shows he was pretty rapid. now look at this video and you can see it's a speed gun error simply from the way the kepper collects the ball. Watching the two videos above ... I felt that In the Air ... Holding was a tad quicker than Thomson ... Anywezzy its mighty difficult to say who was quicker as pace is relative when comparision is between two bowlers with similar speeds without speed meters

Even in that fast bowlers competition, Thompson was clocked 6k quicker than Holding.Thompson is always considered the fastest bowler ever before Akhtar and Lee.

A member from another forum emailed the professor in charge of that competition. Those speeds were from the hand, just like the speeds we see on TV. Imran Khan and Thomson have been on record thinking it was from the batsman's end but: a) That's nonsense. Why would they do that? b) I trust the guy in charge of the machines more than the bowlers who would have only received that information second hand and have every motivation to remember things differently. Holding got the ball through the air at a very fast speed, I will try to find the data on this. Here it is, you can call this unreliable if you want, but I don't think that would be a reasonable thing to do... In his early days, he was as quick as anyone but later on he added fine cutters and variations in pace. From what I've read, they were all very special bowlers - none of them were merely average bowlers propped up by the others.

I watched that game and few games before and after this recorded delivery by Aaron, his speeds were consistent, he bowled 145 plus and 149 range a lot of times in those games , and have no doubt that was 153 k if not faster.As Indian speed guns are not the best and record a bit slow in general also guns are useless without good tuning where accurate speed is shown or it will display a slower speed or one of off the record speed like Zaheer's 171 k.
