Oil prices have spiked up since Iraq issue and so they had to increase the Petrol price and diesel is a routine hike of 50 paisa that has been going on for last 1-2 years started by UPA which happens every month or two.

Diesel price to be cut by Rs 3.37 per litre in Delhi effective midnight tonight. Cabinet approves new gas price formula to be applicable from November 1. Gas prices to be revised on half yearly basis - April 1 and Oct 1 every year. New gas price from Nov 1 will be USD 5.61 per unit: FM.
