Dinesh Karthik vs Wriddhiman Saha

I think we can all agree both are better than Parthiv Patel.Of the two of them i feel Karthik is the better batsman,he can score on tough tracks and is a very aggressive player,can bat in any position too. But Saha has been the preferred choice as Dhoni's backup for the last few seasons.What do u guys think?

Karthik had an excellent run of form for nearly 2 years, and he scored in some very testing conditions. Afterwards, his form fell off, and the rise of Dhoni also limited his chances. I think he's a much better bet in T20s and ODIs though. Saha imo is a very underrated guy with the bat. I know the the domestic cricket is full of trundlers, but even look at his FC, List A and T20 averages and they are exceptional for a keeper and very good even as a specialist batsman. The only problem is that neither he nor Karthik are under 25. We need some young keepers to take over from MSD who play on for 10 years or so.

So was Saha in the recent first class game. We are not going to get a perfect wicket keeper.

Karthik has not been consistent, that is the problem. Other than that he has all the talent and all. I rate him better than Saha as a batsman. Even in the tour in WI he did decently in ODIs but had a few rough decisions against him in 3 of the 5 ODIs played. After that he was ignored. Saha does well in the domestics, yet to prove it at the international level. I would have DK in the team rather than Rohit Sharma in ODIs anyday :P

Kaul's batting record is OK, but he wasn't a regular keeper in the Punjab team and I wonder how his keeping is. There are many keepers averaging over 40 now in domestic cricket apart from Kaul - Saha, Karthik, Pappu, the two Gautams, Motwani, etc.

No, Saha wasn't bad in first Ranji match as keeper. There were couple of half chances which were wrongly termed as drops on cricinfo blog. He had taken a stunning catch in that match.

Both in England and SA he did well in the limited chances he got. Also he has the ability to play anywhere in the line up in addition to being a good fielder. But it is entirely upto him to take a relook at his career what went wrong. A genuinely crisis player who can launch a counter attack.

He played in SRL tour (mendis tour !) as WK when dhoni was rested.But had a poor series and then came back to Ranji trophy and had a poor season. Not surprising hence Saha usurped him

Who has the highest average? Which one has the highest dismissals as wicketkeeper this season? Which ones have captained their side in their career and have leadership skills?

Since that England tour in 2007, DK has scored 180 runs in 15 test innings@12. Had his chances in SL when Dhoni was not there but played some terrible shots to get out. In ODIs too, he had a decent run, was plagued with the habbit of throwing away good starts, then came that series in SL where he scored 3 ducks in 5 matches to lose his spot. Can't blame anyone but himself. Same is true for Parthiv as well. Has had his chances, hasn't grabbed it. Saha through his domestic performances is the rightful reserve keeper ahead of both of them.
