Tiger80 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 What it has to do with popularity? Popular forums should have been more professionally managed.
Nova Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Popular forums should have been more professionally managed. Abey fooktya, freeloaders like you should give us money and we will manage it professionally with customer support. When was the last time this site was offline for so long?
Trichromatic Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Popular forums should have been more professionally managed. Well, people create fan forums because of their interest or hobby.
CG Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 No answer still why it was down. Server overload, site upgrade or what?

Vacha ani Thand Basa Actually, this is becoming like the Tendulkar argument - ICF has set high standards. :winky: Overall, I see this as just a matter of communication - one post on Facebook/Twitter would have done the trick. Think about it.

The Outsider Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 The server had crashed for some reason - not due to overload. Ravi did not notice it for a few days and spent a few hours from his working day fixing the issue once he became aware of it. The amount of time and resources he has spent to keep us going over the years have been immense. We are aware that the delay in stitching things up would have caused some bother to the members, given the fact that ICF does have a substantial user base and there was an India match going on and are working on trying to streamline things a bit more to reduce the occasional downtime. However, just to clarify a bit - for all the admins and moderators this site is an important place where cricket fans can put forth their views without being censured and all of us love to visit the place, read other people's opinions, and share our own. But, all of us have pretty busy professional and personal lives outside ICF and there will be times when these things take precedence over ICF. We will try our best to minimize when this happens to the best of our abilities. We are thinking of ways to be able to communicate the downtime and expected resolution through some other avenue, twitter maybe, since ICF already has a twitter account. Let us know your thoughts in this thread.
coffee_rules Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Yes, updates on FB/Twitter account will be good. Some forums have a mailing list of registered e-mail accounts and send timely updates. Anyway, to communicate the downtime will be nice thing to have. Thanks to all who have worked to bring the site back online.
asterix Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Thanks to Admins and Mods for the hard work and maintaining the site. I can understand its a thankless job. I was looking for twitter updates which I saw after a day. Twitter updates are the best way forward,

A status update on Facebook or on Twitter should be more than sufficient (once or twice a day). :two_thumbs_up:

carnish Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Thanks Outsider for the clarification. Never knew ICF had a twitter account ... gonna check it out soon.
The Outsider Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Apologies for the long and frequent down times. There is some kernel issue with the hardware and a permanent fix will require moving to a new server. We are in the process of working towards it, but till it actually happens there might be some more outages like this. Hopefully we can get this resolved soon.
