Sachin Asks Patil to take the call on his future!!

With constant speculation about his retirement following the recent poor show, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has given an indication that he may finally be ready to call it a day. He had a discussion with chief selector Sandeep Patil on Tuesday. So my two cents are: - If we win the eden test then perhaps Sachin will retire after that game - If we lose then maybe Sachin will play the 4th test as his final international match

Not sure how reliable the news is. In the past usually Tendulkar would come out with statement they were rumours.

Erm should it not always be the selectors who decide whether to pick a player or not. How nice of Tendulkar to remind the selectors that they actualy have some powers over picking a team :facepalm:

But how can a selector decide on a player's "retirement" :dontknow: A selector only has the power to select a team, i.e. pick or drop a player from the team, but I don't know of a single instance where the selector actually called retirement on a player's behalf Can someone pls enlighten me? Or is it that Tendulkar has made his decision and wants Patil to announce it officially. This I can understand but not Patil making a call on Tendulkar's "retirement".

The selectors won't have the guts to drop him, and I don't blame them. There will be massive riots by Sachin fans if he gets dropped. Selectors will probably get stones thrown at their house. The better thing for Sachin to do is to just announce his retiremnt.

Remember how Steve Waugh was dumped before the 2003 WC with Symonds replacing him? Or how Mark Waugh, or even Ian Healy not even gettin a farewell Test or series? In fact Healy didn't even get to play one more Test at his home ground. I don't think any of those players, who were great by the way, were humiliated.

Absolutely agree with most sentiments regarding the state of our team. We were absolutely lucky to have won the 2011 WC and attained the ICC mace with the type of shambolic administration that has been running the game in India. I too don't see much changing with our setup anytime soon. We are well on our way to mediocrity and might remain that way for a long time!
