No - he did not. He was dropped and came out with an open statement that "The selectors would have to drop him, he would not retire".

Yeah i though clarke would start crying ' date='He could not even speak.[/quote'] Both of them share a great working relationship. Clarke in particular was backed up by Ponting throughout his career. I think the Test series in South Africa 2009 under Ponting's leadership (they were not really a great team then) has left an indelible mark on the team including Michael Clarke. It all went down hill thereafter but if there is one series where I consider Ponting captained beyond his potential it was that series. This after Australia lost to South Africa at home earlier in 2008.

With T20 on the rise, with 300+ scores getting common in ODIs, with SR playing a more important role than before, sometimes even in tests, the new generation batsmen are more aggressive and less technically correct. The combination of "Aggressive + technically correct" is very rare. Truly, he and Sachin are the last of that kind.
