Well Sachin in his career never had this form and was never this prolific. Cook I never thought was this good, hats off to him. if breaks the record it is very well deserved.

He is in good form now,but he has technical problems against the moving ball like getting too across when playing in england and other bowling attacks will test him.
This is era of batsmen. He doesn't need to average 60 to break these records. He averages 44 in England and 60 away. He can score runs everywhere. Most important part is that he is very fit. It took him only 6 and half years to play 85 tests, that's 13 tests per year. While Sachin has played 190 tests in 23 year, Cook might end up with 200 tests in next 10 years even if he misses few matches. If I'm not wrong then Cook has highest tests per year. If he manages to play till the age of 36-37, he can break Sachin's record.

cook is due a poor patch of form soon' date=' the Australians will surely target him.[/quote'] 7000 runs, he has alreayd shown that he is a top player. Poor patch won't affect him. Even during India tour to England, he didn't score much except for one inning where he made up for all his failures. Can't recall which player has been so consistent for 7000 runs.

was thinking the same, sachin played less test matches over so many years, cook can easily play more test matches

was thinking the same' date='sachin played less test matches over so many years, cook can easily play more test matches[/quote'] Years when Sachin was most productive as test batsmen, India were busy playing meaningless tri-series, quarangular series ODI series with Kenya, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and all possible opponents. I am talking about time between 1994 to 2000. India didn't play much test cricket in those days else Sachin's record would have been even better.

Clarke struggled in 2010 and 2011. Amla hasn't scored 7000 runs. Yeah, life is unpredictable, so close this thread?

That's why he averages 44 in England. But he will get enough chances on flat track in this era. No wonder he averages 60 away. He doesn't need to average 50 anyway. An average of 46-48 and RPM of 80-85 will ensure that he breaks the record in next 10 years.

Nope...his golden run will end sooner than later...he was never consistently good like SRT or even Kallis and Lara. His honeymoon will end shortly

He doesn't need to be that good.

He's best. Can play till 36?

Alec Stewart played till 40. Cook would be an exception anyway, so you can't say that he can't play till 38. Nasser Hussain and Graham Thorpe played till 36, Cook can easily play another 2 years.
