7 tests and counting now against the real teams. Still hasn't delivered in a single test. For a new player to cement his spot like Ashwin apparently seems to have you need to start your career well against real teams. Will be dropped soon anyway though.

Tendulkar has poor records against some of these types of teams as well. But he's also a big game player. Excellent record against Aus, esp when in prime. Aus were also the best team during this time. Highest wicket taker 3 times in home series. Owned Ponting. Ashwin doesn't come close potential wise.
