Zaheer was always an average bowler and Sachin's time is almost over. But Ashwin and Kohli were supposed to be enjoying dream run.

Give him some time to learn from his failures. No other way to groom young sportsmen. I don't see any replacement in the horizon as well who could have surely done better.

I am not calling for him to be dropped. He brings more to the current team than some others. But just saying his sprint to 50 wickets raised my hopes to unexpected levels, especially prior to this series. His failure at Wankhede was pretty galling to take.

What do you mean by 'beating tail-enders'? :hmmm: edit - you mean their scores? Fair enough. I have confidence that Kohli can come out of this rut and do better, even possibly in this series with some slight adjustment, but Ashwin looks very doubtful I think.

Fatwin's huge failure stands out. He has to learn to pitch 6 balls at one spot. I get the feeling that he gets impatient and tries too many variations.

Yeah Kohli has definitely failed. Maybe people would have him as the bigger failure as the sentiment that AShwin was beating up mediocre teams at home was popular and lessened expectations. I would back Kohli to bat better than Ashwin bowls in the final Test. Not to completely write Ashwin off, but it would be hard for him to up his performance.

The problem with Kohli has not been so much of technique, but of temperament and not being able to come to grasp with top level test cricket. ODIs allow you easy singles and in First Class matches poor bowling and fielding means that a batsman of his caliber is going to get boundaries regularly. Test matches against good bowling attacks are not so simple and you can't keep hitting balls straight to fielders because either the bowler is going to work you over or you are going to get frustrated and do something stupid. Once Kohli starts to rotate strike by hitting the ball softly and into the gaps, he will do better. Ashwin's problem seems to be more of ability and temperament. He seems to lack patience to bowl a few tight overs without any variations, but at the same time his off break appears to be pretty innocuous off the pitch. He has nice flight and loop, but his off break doesn't do much off the pitch. That's the technical shortcoming he will have to work on by putting more body and finger into his action. It's also related to his weight and fitness where he probably can't get pivot in his action.
