Indeed. Despite impressing people in IPL' date=' T20 does not appear to be his format. He seems an expensive bowler who can pick up wickets. He has a high economy in FC cricket and List A cricket too. I'm curious to see if he can do well in ODIs or Tests and am quietly optimistic about his chances.[/quote'] You are right. He is a wicket taker with a high economy rate and t20 may not be ideal for him unless he can bowl yorkers regularly.

:giggle: so true.. We always miss players who is not getting the game
Guys who wanted Dravid and Laxman out of the team after England and Australia whitewashes were saying that we lost in India as there were no Dravid and Laxman. .:cantstop:

Nope, the guys who are pining for Laxman & Dravid to come back are the ones who never wanted them to be dropped. The ones who truly wanted the change want even the remaining dead weights to be dropped and likes of Rahane and Rohit to be given a long overdue shot at Test cricket.

Instead of wasting Umesh in LOI...actually wont be a bad idea to give Ishant a go in ODI's...he has been pretty economical in Test matches...He has pace and has been accurate even though not threatening...Might bring in the extra pace we have been missing in our LOI bowling line up...may be that will be his lucky format.
:hatsoff: Now hope he proves me right :nervous:

Forget bowling...Awana needs to be dropped for his fielding alone...Just atrocious and embarassing to watch his catching and ground fielding. Doesnt look like he belongs at the international level.

Even in IPL he was a good tight bowler for Punjab didnt generate mass pace or do anything with the ball to make you think he would be anything special, just another Vinay from what we have seen in last few matches. Far too early to judge but with bowlers in t20 you get a much better idea of ability to play tests than batsmen.

Watch his spells against DD at Kotla and then Dharmashala. He seamed the ball both ways off the pitch. No one moves the ball in flat condiiton in Mumbai and Pune. Every one needs conditions to swing or seam the ball.

We need to select diff seam bowlers for diff formats based on their skills. For test matches Umesh,Shami,Ishant,Pankaj & Aaron are our best pick. For ODIs & t20s Irfan,Aaron,Dinda,Vinay,Awana should play.

Forget his bowling ability for a second, the way he was mentally wrecked after his poor fielding efforts, gives a glimpse of his overall ability as an international cricketer. Just my opinion,he is not cut it for this level,as I said before still to early to completely judge him but don't like what I see so far.

I would keep Ishant in the mix too, still think he will be a good LOI bowler...has the pace and has been bowling tight and accurate spells lately. His 'misfortune' in tests has been due to his length in test matches which would have been perfect for LOI's.... Irfan is our best bet in LOI's....Dinda and Vinay are in the same category in LOI's and Aaron is still too inexperienced and not completely sold on him yet but definetely has better potential than Awana. if Ishant bowls at the pace he has been working up in australia and also in recent England series,he will not be easy to get away in LOI's

he should not have smiled after dropping the catch. Its a bad attitude. We cannot judge players on basis of t20s .
Just his mental framework and temperament...Fine we can give him benefit of doubt in one game but in both games he did look out of place at this level...Hopefully he will improve as despite I don't see anything special in him but I will go with a lot of your opinions here as you guys have watched way more domestics than I have recently.

What about Sehwag who smiles everytime he drops a catch. Does not he belong to?

After the surgery Ishant came back with a tighter li9 & length.Though he has lost a bit of pace. It'll take some time to get his pace & rhythm back.

The smile was more because of what the spectators sitting behind him were saying to him. In any case, I would never ever want a player on the field with a long face. Dropped catches are a part of the game and having seen Awana field in IPL, its safe to say he is a swift mover and not a bad fielder at all, puts his 100% on the field. Had a bad day the other evening.

Sehwag is generally a safe fielder....casual but decent.....but on awana, not too bothered about his attitude but his temperament, just seemed overwhelmed by the occasion I was impressed by dinda,at least he had a plan b but awana was too one dimensional....I am not completely writing him off....t20 or odi it's still an international game and more often than not you get a glimpse of things to come. Look at jaddu for example, most of us got a glimpse of his standard from t20 too What seperates a good FC player and a good international player is not talent but temperament.

To be fair he did not smile and laugh it off. Was an akward smile seconds after, trying to relax himself or something. You could see he felt awful and was just clueless how to react

T20 is a very difficult format to debut in, Dinda and Awana are triers, Awana is better then all the crap players who have been given a chance in last few years, he is lively F Medium , can seam the ball and hits the pitch hard. He should be played in ODI series and given a longer run, Dinda , Awana OK for shorter versions, selectors have to try out and find potential India players and build a strong team.

Awana did not really smile, he was really embarrassed and the smile was more of a 'Oh my god, what have I done' kind of a reaction. Psychologically, a 'smile' is often regarded as a 'fear' reaction; when scared or 'feeling insecure' people often smile. Awana's smile was exactly that. He was nervous and fidgety all along, and really wanted to do well in the field (as opposed to - he did not care about missing a chance). But his fielding technique overall needs to be worked on, he doesn't cover the ball well, does not seem to have a safe pair of hands and needs to return the ball more accurately. Also, he really got heckled by the crowd which weighed heavily on his mind. Hope he gets a few more games and does better.
