Pujara would probably succeed in ODIs but I'd rather India kept a few players like Pujara, Ishant, Ojha, etc. to focus purely on Test cricket. The problem is not dual formats ... Plenty have done it before (back in 90s and 00's). The problem is from ODIs, comes T20s and then he'll gain more fame in IPL and then there will be too many distractions Unless Pujara can handle the workload and off-field distractions, we'll ruin another career.

The golden phase of our batting had one decent (Dada) & two very technically sound batsmen (SRT & RD) to counter difficult batting conditions in ODIs. Among the current lot, Kohli has the potential but in this age of T20 it seems difficult to see him play the role of a sheet anchor when the going is tough. Pujara is someone who could hold that role especially on foreign tours.

Disagree entirely. There are only a few players who have the potential to be good at all formats. I think Ojha and Pujara are two of them. Ishant is not one of them, imo, I think he has limited potential as an ODI or T20 player. The players who should focus on one format are the one's who are only good at that format - that is already a lot of our players. I don't think workload should be an issue for a batsman or spin bowler tbh. They should be able to put in the long hours. It is part of the job to be able to mentally adapt and physically stand the long-haul innings and tours. Pujara will already be sought after in IPL. ODI selection will only speed that inevitable process up. It is a sad state of affairs when you hope us to discard a possible success just due to IPL.

You are talking like he has not played IPL. he was picked by RCB at hefty amount but did not get much success.

hmm his last 200 was very quick dont think any of the guys in team in odis have ever gotten double hundred at such a clip at domestic level last 50 runs came from 17 balls :P he is def classy enough to be in odis and if he opens in ipl he will do well but i hope he does not cos last time in ipl he got injured :cantstop:

Pujara is already playing IPL, was picked by RCB for 700,000 dollars. In fact, the knee injury he suffered was in IPL while fielding. he will play for RCB this year too.

I'm essentially saying I think he's good enough to improve on his shorter form success but with that success comes media stardom. Look to be honest, I'm talking more out of fear than anything. I see Virat Kohli doing these stupid commercials in India and already being talked up as the next big star and the media talking about who he is dating, and I wonder how long this purple patch can last. I just hope he goes down the path of Dravid, Tendulkar, etc. in terms of handling the media circus.

I just hope he goes down the path of Dravid, Tendulkar, etc. in terms of handling the media circus.[/quote'] not saying this will be true for pujara too but if u look at hashim amla ever since he started playing odis and t20's his game in test flourished .. i think ppujara has very good basics he will not become next murali vijay or anything..at most we might see him fail in t20 thats it dont think his test game will be effective.. imo btw commercials thats how cricketers make money i dont see anything wrong with it virat kohli has great work ethic he gives his all in every match after every loss u can see sadness and u can just see hunger ...wht im saying is he is already handling every thing well dont worry abt him :P i honestly dont think there is naything wrong with stardom that what makes sports good.. :D pujara actually deserves to be n odis and if he does well he deserves stardom too think of it as part of playing professional sports just like skill with bat u need to have clear mind to never forget what got ya there :--D

@Bharat that has been the case even without IPL. Money had always been there. SRT had 100 crore contract with world tel in 1996. IPL money is nothing in front if that. Pujara and Rahane both have contrasting personalities to Kohli. Kohli is flamboyent, more expressive but still concentrates on his cricket as much as any. Other two are more in Dravid/SRT mold.

Completely agree, he should open for an IPL team. RCB need to drop Aggarwal (not sure if spelling is correct) down the order. Pujara is a class act and is a must in the 50 over team. Rahane should also be given a go. One of GG/Sehwag and Rohit (has had enough chances) have to be dropped to make way for these two.

I think because of the new format now we can afford to see off the new ball and play aggressively in the later part of the innings.This strategy will going to work in overseas conditions as well like Australia.
