There are a lot of injuries. I think Duleep Trophy should come after Ranji Trophy but should be at least a month in between.
Sooda Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I think, far too often, you see bowlers like Mithun, Chahar or Dhawal who have outstanding debut seasons and then do not replicate in subsequent seasons. As for batsmen, I think you look for consistency and a single Ranji season is not long enough to prove this. Several batsmen over the years have averaged over 60 over a period of several years in Ranji Trophy like Badrinath. Therefore, you need long term success to prove yourself as a batsman in the FC format imo. I'm talking of First Class cricket here. In OD cricket, you can pick people quicker but make sure they have shown at least some success in the format and are not the type of batsman who averages 25 in the format or the type of bowler that averages 40 in the format despite showing success in FC cricket because the two formats are, of course, separate. Youre right sure but we are kinda lacking in good talent -especially when it comes to openers -right now so these guys, Jiwanjot anyway, needs to be fast tracked...and at least this is the A team and not players being shunted into Senior cricket like Mithun after one season or worse still Unadkat after U19 performances. Good that we have A tours now so we can see how good FC players fare. Im sure Ishant would have been a better bowler had he had longer to develop in FC cricket and not picked pretty much straight from U19s... however given the shortage of pacemen its not easy for the selectors....

He is a work in progress even by India-A standards and would lose all his confidence after a disastrous A-tour. He'd do better to concentrate on his technique after this season and iron out of his flaws and focus on playing some flawless knocks in the next Ranji season rather than piling up runs after getting beaten/dropped a zillion times in an innings.

Even after so.much succesd in FC, he has never done that with A team. You are good as the level you play. Higher the higher the chance to get better.

He was bradmanesque with the A side, played 10 matches for the India A, 9 innings, 852 runs @213 with 4 100s!

Has come along leaps and bounds since he played in the ipl and is 25. Looks a more technically better player than Saha or D Kartick.

Yes, but this where dearth of talent is a problem... Assuming Mukund is one opener for India A (and even he has not had a stellar Ranji season I dont think) who can the other be? Has to be Jiwanjot really... unless we go back to the Vijay

I don't think this is the only way forward. There have been suggestions by ex-cricketers that is better to start early for a batsman to allow and learn from failures. So, I think Jiwanjot should be selected for the 'A' tour. I didn't watch the games but is it true about him being 'lucky'? I don't see any particular reports in the media about such happenings.

If i was selector he would be at ahead of the queue in terms of batsman deserving a shot at the Indian team and that too for a while. Has been ludicrously ignored.

Deserved a longer rope IMO especially when the likes of Yuvraj , Raina have played 20+ tests. Anyways his time is over now.

Flamboyance has always won over performance in indian cricket.
