Good win today but still not convinced why he is bating so low in the order. Imagine if the umpire had given him out when there was that thin edge to the keeper early in his innings, story could have been totally different.

I think the reason why he is coming lower is that he wants someone to be there in those last 10 overs to get the quick runs like he did today.

Dhoni is the best finisher in the game. But if he bats up the order, he may get out before 40 overs and may not bat at the death where he is most effective. There are other accumulators in the side like Gambhir, Kohli, Rahane whose job is to bat till 30-40th over.

Otherwise he will come at no 6 which gives him chance to control the chase or bat when conditions are better when we bat first.

You are right - I always feel that in ODIs the best batsman should get the most possible overs. However, in the past I have seen captains and players defy that philosophy. Michael Bevan, Brian Lara and Inzamam-Ul-Haq are some examples which come to my mind immediately. Apparently, there's another line of thought amongst the cricketers which says that they are successful BECAUSE they bat in certain positions. Also, since they are "in-form" they need to carry more pressure - therefore, if the other "out of form" batsmen fail the "in form" batsmen should be able to cope with it. However, I do not quite agree with that line of thinking.

He is the best batsman in Indian team when it comes to scoring in middle overs quickly. he can score at 6 an over easily middle overs without taking any risks
