prinzo Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 In my opinion SA has the most settled test team at the moment, know exactly which 11 or so players to choose. The next team I think is England. Selection issues for India, windies, etc is vital if they to have a good results. Australia have too many bowlers to choose om and are undecided who to play all the time, screw the rotation, they just don't know who to play. What are your views?
maniac Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 ^No Good spinners yet...I still think it is England
Sachin=GOD Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Out team is pretty well balanced - sh!t in (almost) all departments :dontknow:
cameron_black Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 SA? nah. prince getting dropped, rudolph moving around before getting dropped, duminy injured, elgar finding his feet, no proper spinner and the list goes on... england are a more settled side.
vvvslaxman Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 ^No Good spinners yet...I still think it is England But they have good players against spin unlike England who has array of jokers in their line up against spin. Only Cook and KP can survive against good spin.
SLICKR392 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 England have issues with their No.6 and 7 post. So it has to be SA. England are also yet to find a long term opener with Cook.
vandokkum Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 LOL at England, the truth is they destroyed a medicore Indian side at home. The same England were whitewashed against Pakistan, drew against a poor Lanka and got beaten 2-0 by us at home. With Finn being injured more often than not, Anderson is their only settled pacer. Likes of Broad, Bresnan are little more than mediocre and Patel/ Compton as test cricketers.. you are having a laugh. SA have the most settled side when it comes to the core of the team, only Elgar would move out if he doesn't seal his place when JP is back.
Lord Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 English to me,SA dont have a decent spinner n no.7 batsman
saneindian Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I assume by being a stable side you mean, stability in team selections over a 12-18 month period? Peterson, Smith, Amla, Kallis, ABDV, Steyn, Morkel, Philander..thats 8 of the 11 who pick themselves for SA in all conditions SL - Dilshan, Sanga, Mahela, Mathews, Samarweera, Herath, Prsasanna - 7 of the 11 are regulars, pacers keep changing. For England, Cook, Trott, Bell, KP, Prior, Swann, Anderson - 6 of the 11 who pick themselves across conditions. Broad was dropped in India, Panesar is not a choice in Eng, SA, Aus etc. Pakistan - Hafeez, Misbah, Younis, Azhar Ali, Shafiq , Ajmal- 6 of the 11 who are regulars. India - Sehwag, Gambhir, Kohli, Sachin, Dhoni - 5 of the 11 Aus- Warner, Cowan, Clarke, Watson, Wade - 5 of the 11 WI - Baravo, Chanders, Samuels, Sammy, Roach - again 5 of the 11 NZ are in a flux
hhhhdmt Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 SA, right now its not a debate. England comes pretty close though.
saneindian Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 English to me' date='SA dont have a decent spinner n no.7 batsman[/quote'] England have a new opener, new no 6, and other than Anderson and Swann, other two bowlers keep changing depending on form and conditions. (Broad, Panesar, Bresnan, Finn etc)

South Africa are definetely closed 2nd or tied with England....Lack of Spinners might affect their balance in SC conditions...Infact Swann was one of the reasons why Eng did better in Aus than SA.
Number Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 If England are balanced then how they were destroyed at home by Saffers. :)
maniac Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 If England are balanced then how they were destroyed at home by Saffers. :) We are talking about balanced and not the better side....English conditions suited SA....Man-to-Man S.A is ahead but in terms of resources in all departments England seems to have the edge

You are right. Their so called better spinner got destroyed by us and was actually dropped. And their mediocre trundler reserves in Anderson, Broad, Bresnan etc :giggle: And less said about likes of Compton, Bell, Morgan, Patel etc in test cricket the better.

As I said Man-to-Man SA look terrific....but not as an overall unit. Imran Tahir is a joke...SA can play 12 players with Tahir and it wont add much value.
saneindian Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Add FAF to SA line up for now as well...but England have a better balance in terms of resources and backups available to them. Faf has hardly started his career, won't call him a regular yet. Otherwise add Pujara, Ashwin and Ojha to our list as well and we have a failry settled test squad! England do not have proper backups for their batting slots (opener and no 6). Remember they were forced to patch up with KP after all the sound bytes about team culture and all that jazz. They do have better back ups for the bowlers though.
