I do not like him' date='he has no pace, not international class that is for sure[/quote'] Love these Pakistani fans.. they go ga ga about how Amir was the next big thing and still want him back (assuming he'll still be the same) and demean Philander's stats. :cantstop:

He's been very impressive so far but he has got the majority of his wickets in South Africa, England and in Australia he got them in Perth. I would like to see how he goes in the subcontinent. Dale Steyn ripped apart India in India the last time the South Africans went there. If Philander can do the same, then he's in that class.

His value in the team is that he is the third seamer in the side. The other two SA bowlers are genuinely quick (Steyn + Morkel), so batsmen tend to take more risks against Philander. In fact he is the ideal 3rd seamer.

Its incredible that he could not bowl 135+ with all his strong upper body strength. Fast bowlers are not made' date=' they are born.[/quote'] Yep ur the expert

On a wicket where Ajmal picks up 10 and even Peterson got more wickets than Steyn, he manages 9. But hey, he hasn't yet managed 30 wickets at 12 a piece in India!

If there is not much swing, he increases his pace to 145-150k and bowls short occasionally and attacks the stumps a lot more. When there is movement, he bowls 135 on average and bowls 4th stump line mostly. You cant compare Steyn to Philander who bowls only 125 k on average. I dont think he will be effective in conditions which are not helpful against a decent batting side. That's why Smith wants him to increase pace.

No no I'm not comparing them yet. The only reason I mentioned Steyn is because currently for South Africa, those 2 are getting all the wickets. If Philander can get wickets consistently in the subcontinent then we'll see. Philander seems to get movement off the pitch whereas Steyn gets movement in the air. When you go to the subcontinent, you're unlikely to get much assistance from the pitch so that's where I think Philander may struggle in the subcontinent.

While that spell was very good, you must take into account the fact that Laxman and Dravid were not playing that test and both Sehwag and Tendulkar scored centuries.
