He ones said that he wanted to keep away from cricket world after retirement b/c he'll continue to play until he feels like he has had enough. After his retirement he could rent stadiums and charge people to see him walk out to the ground and back to the pavilion. He's set for life and as long as IPL is around money will not be a factor because unlike laxman, he can actually play all formats.

His career was mainly tests for a huge chunk of his career. Do players who play multiple formats make more money than the ones who play just one? Also, since ODIs have always been more popular to the mass media, I don't think Laxman got too many ads/commercials etc. If I had to guess, guys like Kohli and Raina have more money than lax.

Kohli and Raina may well be financially ahead of VVS but he still would be one of the richest cricketers in the world. I doubt he needs to do commentary work to get by. Maybe you are forgetting the fact Laxman was one of the key players (was it "franchise" players) in the inaugural IPL along with Dravid, Tendulkar, Dhoni, Sehwag etc. and IIRC all of those key/franchise players got close to a million dollars or so with Dhoni paid the highest amount.

I doubt he needs to do commentary work to get by. very highly doubt that. He has had a very credible career in test cricket but I wouldn't call him one of the richest cricketers. Obviously well off financially than your average Indian but he may have to work to keep his life style parallel with the cricketing days. Having said that, he would be a fantastic coach (I think) or even an administrator with the BCCI. Commentary is just not cut out for him. He could be like Kris Srikanth for example. Kris could not speak to a large audience but he did great as an admin with the BCCI.

He is able to articulate what he wants to say. But very plain.
