Point is that Jadeja can't be relied upon to perform even a supporting role of picking up a few wickets in those conditions. He has a good ODI record at home. Why did he suck in CB series? What's an indicator of test potential? Firing darts on dustbowl?
he had a bad series, yes.but ODIs on flat tracks with spread fields are hardly anything to go by. anyway he looks improved n much more accurate bowler from then
Ojha and Ashwin have prior record of success. What do Chawla and Jadeja have? Ghanta.
I was just talking about your dustbowl thing?if it indeed was a dustbowl,Ojha n Ashwin would have done better,no?
Tour games don't count. Nagpur test doesn't count. CB series doesn't count. County cricket doesn't count. Basically, any place where Jadeja's mediocrity has been exposed, except dustbowls doesn't count.
who says they dont count?I'm just saying they cant be compared as the approach of touring team is to try out players than win.Clarke didnt play any of the games, makes a big difference tour games could have been actual dustbowls, who knows:winky: anyway good night.gonna sleep now.ttyl:icflove:

If anything the test pitches will have even less for spinners in general except for a few exceptions. As for spread fields, Kaptaan Kool did that even in tests.

Nagpur wasn't a dustbowl - Chennai and Hyderabad are. Hope that clarifies.

Yes, but no one wants to throw wickets away either. They are not test matches but individual performances in them cannot be neglected completely either.

jadeja the bowler is nothing more than a dustbowl specialist. just like chauhan, ashish kapoor, etc. his batting is abysmal; and that is a relevant point in this discussion because dhoni puts him in the side to add 'balance' with his all-round abilities. he needs to score runs to justify his place in the side. the only positive in his game is his fielding. thats it. pick him as a 12th man and make sehwag fake an injury. do people seriously expect a guy like this to do well in south africa? his bowling will get smoked and he will be a free wicket

He can't click in South Africa, he can't click in Australia, so lets not select him for Hyderabad :stupid: What a ridiculous logic. He adds to the balance to the team in sub continent conditions with his accurate darts ( sometimes spins) , and good fielding and a decent batting. He has not come good in bat so far, but he can be trusted to score 40/50s in subcontinent conditions and he'll come good eventually. As far as non-subcontinent conditions, he can always be replaced with a proper batsman like Rahane/Rohit. Anyway we play more than 75% of our tests in sc condition and winning there is important too.

Jadeja has suprised me ... In subcontinental conditions he's doing his job. Ultimately the argument for Jadeja over Ojha boils down to this. Jadeja's value to the team = Defensive off-spinner + Lower order batsman + Excellent fielder Ojha's value to the team = Attacking off-spinner + Genuine tailender + Poor fielder In subcontinental conditions, India will typically play 2 other spinners since Jadeja bats 7 so Jadeja's value > Ojha's value in a direct comparison of the 2. However, I believe Ojha should be there instead of Harbhajan.

KT strikes again. Jadeja is fine for tests in India, as the 3rd spinner along with Ashwin and Ojha. There is a chance his batting will eventually get better. An average of 50+ at domestic cricket must mean something. I hate India going in with 3 spinners and 1 pacer. Jadeja allows 2 pacers to play.

This is mentality which is nemesis of Indian cricket and has been for long. There is no desire to do well outside India. Your number of 75% is also exaggerated.

All I am saying is just like we play spinner heavy team in sc and seamer heavy team outside, we can also play 6+5 in Indian conditions and 7+4 outside where our batting tends to be weaker. Horses for courses.. Except English, Oz and SA, everywhere else conditions are spin friendly, hence 75% is fair, I guess.

One just needs to look at how Australians "use" their players - remember Andrew McDonald in SA? You need to play the best available under these conditions and whether you like it or not Jadeja is the best 3rd spinner we have. He's better than Harbhajan, Mishra or any of the other new prospects at the moment as a 3rd spinner. Ojha should play in place of Harbhajan though.
