Why cant India be this professional?

It's work ethic. Indian teams typically (obviously there are exceptions with individual players) are typically lazy, and complacent. Australian teams work their backsides off trying to improve. It may not make a big difference this series because the difference in the spin bowling department is too great but in the long-term it will show. Re: Greg Chappell. In my opinion there are 2 aspects to coaching: 1) The ideas that you have 2) Man management and team culture Chappell's biggest flaw was his man management. Unfortunately Chappell was let down by his lack of man management. He did not understand how the Indian team culture operated and went about things poorly. His ideas, mostly weren't that radical (obviously a couple of them weren't the greatest e.g. moving Sachin to No.4 in the ODIs) but in general he wanted the team to put greater emphasis on fitness, fielding and have a more flexible batting line up.
Coaches cannot be judged only on results.I think chappell was a good coach. It helped break ganguly group and dropping ganguly, shewag, bhajji was great decison as it proved in the future.I think The current indian team is going in the same direction which a coach like chappell can sort out.

Lets not jump the gun on this. Australia had 2 practice matches before the first test. They dont have any practice matches during the test series. The first warm up their key players did not take part v the board presidents 11. The second warm up a lot of their players turned up tired from the trip from Aus. (Shane Watson comes to mind). How is that professional? scheduling the ODIs v WI just before such a crucial tour when many of the party had never played test cricket in India? If anything they were poorly prepared for this series. Contrast that to the prep the English team put in for their series win. @DM kirsten is a fitness freak. I have read so many articles of the SA team losing so many kg of weight from extended training sessions. They actually went to Switzerland for conditioning before the England series where they also took in a motivational lecture by Mike Horn.

It was mental conditioning much like Australia's boot camp before the 2006-07 Ashes series. Yes, Kirsten is a fitness freak but there is some mantra behind these tactics which he adopts. Kirsten himself was on the international cricket playing circuit not long ago and would understand a few things.

There is no way Zaheer khan would continue with all that weight if Kirsten was in charge.

May be but there was a lot of stress on the mental aspect of the game, if what the players say have to be believed.

Aussies are stupid, how many of their games will they play in India in the next 4 years around 5-10% ? Instead of this they can save energies for Ashes or even more important Champions trophy which will be played on different wickets altogether.

Major difference is that they are not used to losing and we are. They are pissed that they are getting rammed by us, however it is business as usual for us.

You feel that a redundant ODI tournament is more important than an away test tour? India already are a victim of such a ridiculous mindset and you want the Aussies to be like that as well?

At this level how much can you improve with last minute practice? Sure 8 days sounds like a lot - but how will you change the way you play based on a few days preparation. The attitude is admirable, but these guys are professionals who already have set ways of playing. It will take a lot more than 8 days of practice to get used to playing on spin pitches. That said Mohali is going to be completely different than the ones in the south.

When we were getting beaten left-right and center, our team took time to go go-karting in Australia, shopping in London. Well at least that was what the media showed. Australians are going through the same at the moment, but you can see their commitment to improvement. Instead of taking days off as the match ended early. They actually practiced on 4th/5th day pitch (the on used in match) to get better facing spinners. They may well still go on to lose the series but they are doing everything to compete and get better. Not sure I saw India having the same attitude during their last 2 away tours.
Agree 100%. Not just the practice, you can see in the words of Michael Clarke that he was very blunt in his assessment and did not defend the poor performances of his players. If it was Dhoni, he would have just kept defending all the senior players.

For one.. Indians (from a third world country) are going to Australia (First world nation)... so I am sure they wanna shop and explore. I can't imagine Australians wanting to go shopping and clubbing and India.. Where are they supposed to shop ? Chandni Chowk and some big fancy mall which really is nothing compared to the malls in their country?.. Plus We all know how the public in our country hounds and harasses celebrities. Secondly yea, our maharathis are happy living from one game to another... why the hell should they feel shame and work hard when they are already making millions and are heralded as "big boss" on television and media? (like that asinine u-19 pepsi commercial).. Michael Clark is perhaps one of the most hard working athletes out there.. I realized this after watching a whole documentary about how he trains. That guy is devoted to excelling in cricket like our politicians are devoted to sucking money out of us. There is no comparison. Sachin, I can see having that kinda dedication and work ethics.. but the Kohlis and Dhonis and Rainas and Sehwags can't be bothered.

If that is true, then BCCI is doing an extremely poor job of not informing our players that this is NOT a paid vacation.

Quite a unique explanation, must say. What happens when we go to South Africa?
