Texan Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Provide your honest opinions on MS Dhoni's captaincy. Please keep your personal preferences aside and provide your honest opinions on his captaincy so far. Pros: 1. Best captain available among the current lot of players. 2. Easily finds a place in the team on his batting and wicket-keeping skills alone in all 3 formats, so isn't just a burden on the team. 3. Team members seem to "trust" Dhoni. 4. Brought in a fresh perspective when he was new as a captain. 5. Backs his players (also a con) Cons: 1. Biggest con - If he believes in a player's ability, then he will back him to death. Despite repeated failures, he will keep persisting with the player. 2. Extremely inflexible when it comes to team selection. He will play the same team again and again and again despite repeated losses. When India lost 8 Tests in a row away, he didn't even bother trying new batsmen or changing the batting order or anything different. Any other captain in world cricket would have made changes. 3. Inability to bench senior non-performing players. 4. Players who he does not back get indifferent treatment. (E.g. Rahane, Manoj Tiwary)
The Outsider Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 1. Best captain available among the current lot of players. No. His captaincy is abysmal in test matches. I would back even Ojha to do a better job than him. 2. Easily finds a place in the team on his batting and wicket-keeping skills alone in all 3 formats, so isn't just a burden on the team. No his keeping(over the last two years) is abysmal like his captaincy. Batting yeah, he is the best batsman who can put on keeping gloves for a show. 3. Team members seem to "trust" Dhoni. Any surprise there? The likes of Raina, Harbhajan, Jadeja owe their test careers to the conflict of interest Dhoni brings with his role in Indian Cements, IPL, and Rhiti. 4. Brought in a fresh perspective when he was new as a captain. Agree on that. His ability to stay calm under pressure is still there and his Nagpur test tactics were superb. 5. Backs his players (also a con) More of a con when the backed players are the likes of RP Singh, Harbhajan, Jadeja, and Raina.
Laaloo Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 He keeps backing the same losers over and over again so he can say, "Told you I was right for backing them"

Ultimate_Game Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Kitne threads banaoge bhai? We get it Dhoni is the "worst captain we ever had". Apparently even Ojha would be a better captain than him :giggle: I shudder to think what a great cricketing super-power India would have been if we had even a half-decent captain at the helm of the team. BCCI sure did cricketing world a favor by having Dhoni as a captain else we would be kicking everyone's @$$ at the moment and SA would be shaking in their boots at the prospect of playing India later in the year

If you see, I have listed more pros than cons and I have already mentioned that he is the best captain among the current lot. I am a fan of some of his captaincy ways, but he also brings a very inflexible attitude to his captaincy, which is very worrying.
Texan Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 Merge this to the Ganguly vs Dhoni thread. I am not making any comparisons to Ganguly.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I am not making any comparisons to Ganguly. but others will do it.
adi B Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Pros : Cool' date=' Greatest ever.[/quote'] :hysterical:
I6MTW Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Pros: He scored a double century in a day. No other Captain has scored a double century in a day. At least no indian captain. Cons: He didn't score triple century in a day.
tweaker Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 M S Dhoni as a captain Backs a player even if he fails.Does not give a chance to another player in the squad w hich could be a difference between win and defeat. Does not change batting and bowling order Will not give a youngster.a chance and when he is given a chance he expect him to shoulder all responsibility.B kumar has to complete his ten overs in 1 spell. Protect his favourite players inspite of bad perfomance .Ashwin bowling to tailenders. should have been dropped after losing 8-0 overseas and against England in home series, but it is alleged that his close relation with BCCI president saved him.

tweaker Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I dont believe in best available captain in the current lot theory .Virat Kohli and Chateshwar Pujara r definately captaincy material.
I6MTW Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Pujara has not even scored runs outside india yet how can he be considered captaincy material? Kohli maybe but he is out of form in odi's.
Sidhoni Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 No' date=' this is not a "Dhoni" bashing thread. FreakazoiD Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Dhoni is probably the best captain India has ever had. I love the carefree style and the fact he doesn't take cricket too seriously but as a sport to be enjoyed (as VVS said on air), which is how he can stay calm and not wilt under pressure (like SRT). Unfortunately, not many fellow Indians take it as a sport but as a matter of life or death!
Junyfan Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 ofcourse he is not the most astute captain @ tecnically speaking not proactive
