He will surely want to erase that poor memory of his horrible first SA tour. Which I'm sure he'll be reminded about often during the build up of that tour.
Are you really talking about Pujara?!?! Did you watch the match? It was his first ever test and the pitch was a total bowlers paradise and we were facing the 2 worlds best bowlers (Steyn and Morkel), most the batsmen failed e.g. Kohli but Pujara and Laxman 2nd innings stand (forget the ground) showed to me how good he was going to be in tests, he totally got on top of the bowlers and didnt score big but showed his technique was solid- Dravid like. He is the only bright spark out of the current batsman.

i back tendulkar bhai pujara got a totally unplayable ball from Steyn. Having said that back then Pujara's problem was scoring shots to keep the scored ticking. He did face a lot of balls for the runs he made. Azhar ali of pakistan faced the same issues. But looking at Pujara in this aussie series he seems to have found those scoring shots needed to keep the scoreboard ticking

Kohli didn't play that game.

Kohli will also be a surpise in South Africa. He made a good 75 at the WACA. He should be able to give support to Pujara and he has a good understanding with Dhoni, who will mostly likely be number 6 with Irfan at 7.

he'll be no.3 this time.
He was also much younger and inexperienced at the time. He will be India's best batsman on the tour and will average comfortably over 40, even all time greats from the subcontinent have not been able to do it. He is too good in world cricket for everyone except Steyn.

He should do reasonably well. Won't be a bad idea to send him on SA A tour in July. Plus not just for him but for the sake of all other younger batsmen, the planning for the tour has to be proper. In October and till mid-Nov , we will be playing 7 ODIs and a couple of T20s vs the Aussies. Need to ensure chunk of the test squad is in SA well before the 1st test and are given at least 3 practice matches and around 15-16 days for acclimatisation.

Yeah the pitches and the conditions would be drastically different but at least will give some of these guys an idea of what to expect. Don't think any one of Vijay, Dhawan, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane have ever played a FC match in SA. Not that I expect much from that tour, at least will be of some help to Pujara, Rahane and Kohli later when we tour.

+1 def sarcasm but its true he is our best bet..but doing that at number 3 is going to be twice hard as there are no solid openers so he will be basically opening against philander and steyn

Its too much to expect from BCCI but it would be a really good idea if they send few youngsters like Kohli-Pujara-Dhawan and also likes of Gambhir-Sehwag to A-tour proposed to SA. But I don't see it happening.
