^^You cant really discount performances against "weak" teams because test cricket is played only among 10 nations and if you remove the weak teams' date=' cricket is basically a 3 or 4 team game. :cantstop:[/quote'] Not discounting, just saying cannot compare performance of a bowler against SA batting and Pak batting. Performance against batting will always be counted higher.

Now the Aussie high performance chief Pat Howard questions Watson's commitment. Says Watson plays for the team 'sometimes'. Think this should be the end of Watson's international career.
One of the comments in Foxsports site : "now if only the aussie bowlers produce as much spin as their administrators, Aussies would not have been down 2-0" :haha:

good to see Patto not sulking even when he should
He is still young with a long career ahead of him. He has no choice but to take it on the chin. He will be furious inside though. He bowls his heart out in 35 degrees Chennai heat on a pitch with no help for pace bowlers and takes 5 wickets and gets treated like this. :headshake:

When Simpson took over, Australia had not won a Test match in 14 attempts and had gone without winning a series in 2 years. Talk about being cr@p! Pattinson's argument is straw man! The team management lets off the players who let the team down due to cricket and censures players for off the field things like 3-point notes & wellness repors? I don't think this makes any sense. The ex-players have rightly criticized this stupidity. This includes Alan Border and Ian Chappell - two of the harshest critiques you will ever come across.
and who did they face during those 2 years?. We need to know the calibre of opposition they were facing

well its about the attitude. having a bad day at the office is totally different from not following protocol. Again, the penalties are very, very harsh but those two situations cant be compared. it was 3 points, ffs. how much time does it take? as much as the management looks bad, the players havent covered themselves in glory either

A team which goes 14 Test matches without a victory against any opposition is quite poor and mediocre. In any case, fathom this No code has to be inserted here. Losing 3 Test matches to NZ was very poor. I am making a very simple point - the team which Bob Simpson took over was even more cr@p than the current team. At least they have couple of series victories (including a 4-0 whitewash) at home unlike the team of Simpson.

well to be fair that NZ team with Hadlee was one of the best NZ teams of all time. They even beat England in 1986 at home and did the same v India in nz. (i think not sure on the india part). Same with the WI to be honest, they were legendary there. Even Zimbabwe during the 80s were very good.

Its not a question of not writing the 3 points. Its a question of deliberately defying the boss (Coach/ Captain). If you are asked to do something by the boss and you dont do it, then there has to be consequences. Otherwise, the guys who did it end up looking stupid and next time the boss asks everyone to do somethin, no one will do it.

You're clearly mistaken about Zimbabwe - they were minnows. You can't deny that Australia were very poor after 1983 - no one does, despite the quality of the opposition they placed. In any case, Pattinson's claim is that they were the "top team" in the world. Straw man once again & cricket basics don't change.

The coach/captain also asked not to play cross batted shots before the 2nd innings and yet Hughes/Warner played them and got OUT to them leaving the team in a vulnerable position for the whole series. How about drawing a "line in the sand" for these guys? You want to make an example for cricketers - common sense says that cricketing reasons are much better than non-cricketing ones.
