carnish Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Kochi: Billed as India's biggest shopping mall, the Lulu Shopping Mall was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Kochi on Sunday. Built at a cost of over Rs 1,600 crore, the mall is spread over 2.5 million square feet of space and is owned by EMKE group of United Arab Emirates (UAE) businessman MA Yousuf Ali, who hails from Kerala. Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, state Leader of Opposition VS Achuthanandan, several cabinet colleagues of Chandy and other top Kerala politicians were also present at the occasion. The mall has nine theatres, 16 pairs of escalators, elevators and travelators. There is a 3,500-seat multi-cuisine food court and parking for 3,000 cars. 9 theatres in 1 mall... thats great for movie goers. B->

Quite awesome. And to think Yusuf Ali started out as someone who wld stack boxes in a grocery store and now a billionaire tycoon. Just curious dosen't Emke group and by default the LuLu brand fall under the realms of FDI investment?

yoda Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Shopping malls in India now are bigger and better than some of the malls here in the US. One thing I found however is that things are pretty expensive in these malls and I am not sure if the common man can afford to buy anything there.

I found clothing to be more expensive in Indian malls than your typical N.American mall.. but I guess thats to do with all the customs n taxes foreign brands have to pay in India
