I put it down to nerves and immaturity. He wanted to make a statement in his first match and tried to "slog" his way out of trouble which was not the right way to approach things. I think he deserves a decent run to try to cement his spot. If he can't do anything in 5 games then yeah drop him and give someone else a go.

He is physically weak too, I will take Ramesh Powar over this Mahatma Rahane. You should have fat/muscles something on those bones. He looks so fragile, dunno what will happen to him if Indian play ODIs in Sharjah again, he will be blown away to Arabian Sea with winds. He looks completely flushed, wasted out there. What a stupid OP post ... Anyone who is mentally weak cannot score 5000+ runs in domestic game. He is just rusty because of long time in the dressing room. Plus his confidence also must be low. He knows once Dhawan is back, he would be back carryuing drinks and hence the expectation to perform might be getting to him. Plus the conditions out there were not exactly the best to bat. Lets give him atleast one full series before taking a call on him.

He is bound to be under pressure when he gets a chance to play because he has been on the sidelines for a long while and a few failures could see somebody else getting picked ahead of him. He should be given a longer rope.

I agree he is overrated but i think we shud reserve our judgement and not write him off when he is in bad form. If he fails at the international when he is doing well in domestic matches, then we can say he is not good enuf to play quality attack.
