Why Ashish Nehra ommited from Indian team?

The last match he played for India was the semi final against pakistan in the world cup. He performance was not bad by any strecth of imagination and helped India win. His injury kept him out of the world cup finals. But why he was never considered again in the national side? We kept on persisting with trundlers like Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar etc. According to me Nehra is any day better bowler than many playing for India at the moment. Any idea why was he neglected?

He served the country well between 2009-2011 but I'd reckon he is viewed as the mix of fragile and old that means he's not worth persevering with.

He served well in 2003 world cup too if you remember as a third seamer. I would say unlucky bowler to have played during same era as Zak.

Unlucky because of persistent injuries that plagued him between 2005-2009 which should have been the peak years.

Unlike test cricket where every test match is an event in itself, ODI cricket is mainly about the World Cups. So, after every WC, every team drops oldish players who can't make it to the next WC even if they are decent. Captains also resign after WC if they think they can't make it to the next one. India dropped Nehra and Munaf after winning the WC '11 for the same reason. Munaf especially was pretty good in the tournament.

not sure about Nehra.. he never really had much going on for him... but Munaf had potential.. his pace was just right and he was very good at bowling stump to stump.

Injury killed his career somewhat. He was probably one of our better oid bowlers than most. Also had good pace. But him getting injured regularly, didn't really help his career. Was terrific in his last match against Pakistan in the world cup semi final. Top performance where he bowled with injury

After 2003 world cup injury killed his pace, he wasn't the same anymore but he kind of made a Zak-like come back during 2009 but never stayed fit consistently. I guess it was time to move on after 2011 world cup.

One of the few Indian seamers who could bowl decent yorkers at death. 2003 WC Indian bowling squad was a very good one. Srinath, Nehra, Zak, Agarkar, Kumble, Harbhajan.

I think Nehra and Munaf must be brought back for Indian ODI set up rather than persisting with Ishant .Even Praveen Kumar must be considered for ODI spot if his form improves.

I dont remember exactly but I vaguely recall Munaf was ourbest bowler between 2009-2011 by keeping it tight as first change and picking 2 -3 top order wickets each game along with Praveen kumar. Iam pretty sure that if Munaf and Praveen is in form we would not have lost the ODI series against pakistan.Rather we were left with Ishant and Dinda who are rubbish anyways.

maybe because he deserved to be dropped. Munaf needs to be brought back though.
