Kohli has played 3 good innings in Australia. His overseas average is low mainly due to his bad performance in the West Indies in his first test series. As I said, teething problems. He averages around 58 in the last 11 tests or so. Fact is -- unless a player has played 40 or 50 tests or so, records don't give the correct picture of a player's performance and ability. Short period statistics ate misleading more often than not and the manner of playing gives a better picture. That is why we are so optimistic about Pujara. Are you comparing a sample size of 3 against 14. Or an average of 65 vs 41? Anyway, the thread is about your listed tailunts and my questions were about those.

Overall, Pujara has been a far better test player than Kohli in tests so far. Not just because of the averages but because he dominates the opposition consistently, while Kohli goes into a shell on occasions in tests. That has been his problem so far.

The next 3 test series played outside the subcontinent, starting with the SAF series, will give us a better idea of how good Pujara and Kohli really are. I am willing to give Pujara an additional series even as he has played just one series against Kohli's 2. Both are now initiated to test cricket. Let's see what hey do outside the subcontinent from now on. Let's go back to discussing the other talented players we are seeing.

XLNC Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Saw Sandeep Warrier in action for the south zone earlier this year and he bowls 130-135. Tall and lanky. Dont know what the hype around him is. Didnt seem mpressive. Rahul Shukla seems to have raw pace. Watch out for him.

Unmukat Chand & Mandeep SIngh are going to score big runs in the coming games. I don't know what special ppl saw in Vihari. For me, he was the main culprit for scoring so slowly. Which team does Harmeet Singh. (Mumbai Spinner) plays for ? Hope he gets a few games.

He may not have scored quickly and may not be fit for T20 but it does not mean he is a bad player. He fits for longer version of the game.

youngindia Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Good to see manan getting chances. he was a crucial member of the winning u 19 team as an attacking batsman and missed through injury. he has to be on the a tours in the near future. if unmukt had got out in the u 19 final, we wud have lost and manan's absence wud have been a big factor. rkt.india Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 why do you say so? His bowling does not suit T20. He should stay away from it for the time being. It can easily ruin him. They already have Chavan and Chandila as domestic spinners.
