Ambulances if you do find one, who is free or have money to pay for one will take 88 hrs. In india its all about bundling them in to a car and driving to hospital. Then hospital will ask how paying etc etc. Its very complicated with police, no ambulances , ambulances which can arrive may want money, hospital want money, may have to drive them yourselves to hospital. After all this may get arrested in extortion attempt by police:hysterical: No wonder on one helps:cantstop:

There are plenty of incidents where people actually help and nothing happen to them.If people keep on thinking about negative aspect then where will society head.If majority of people help then even police will not harass helpers but if the genuine helpers will be in minority then police will harass them and even see them with suspiscioun

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Dude live in India FFS. Then be Mr Brave!!! Law of averages catch up with you and you will be locked up unless you get the cash out:hysterical: Indians who live in India dont want to take chances and end up getting stitched up., they have got their lives and families to think off. Help and you may then need help from the police :nervous: In India if there is a crash I drive straight past. In UK if there is a crash I stop, phone ambulance, stay there till it comes and give all help I can till it comes. Then happily tell police anything they want to know and assist them in their enquiries. Thus its not the fault of indians but the systems of the country within it which stops them helping. Also all very well for yuppies on net to talk all brave. But vulnerable and poor in India are there to be exploited, a poor person would be daft to phone ambulance or police to report a crash, they will only end up 90% of time being out of pocket. Although police generally love more wealthy victims for their extortion, as their fees can be higher then:giggle: Jai Hind:isalute:

A lot of you guys dont understand india and are clearly phoney indians in the west :cantstop: No wonder some have faith in its institutions. i.e 84 all is innocent:hysterical: Look you stop at an accident in India, help them, call abulance(god knows what the number is lol there is no number!!! Best you can do is take their phone and try and phone a relative). Anyhow you wait around help etc like a good samaratinan. Next thing you know police arrive and guess what. Instead of patting you on the back and saying well done. The police will take your deatils down and frankly try and extort you for money by pinning blame of accident on you and god forbid they die, as you may be charged for murder, unless of course you pay a nice sum. You could be arrested and/or wrapped up in legality for years. Thats one of major reason no one stops. A realtive of mine stupidly stopped to help once and ended up paying large sums to police to avoid going to jail!!! Plus even if you do get medical help, its not free and hospital may stick you with the bill. Thats why no one stops in India and just go on by sadly. Not worth the aggro. Can get in serious sh@it if you do!
Every sim card comes with a default ambulance number... Also this incident cannot be generalised,I have seen people trying to help more often than not, infact sometimes they get more involved than necessary....desis can be very nosy and judgemental most times but that's a price that comes with being helpful than most other cultures.

In bangalore city, a crowd gathers within seconds of any accident, helps the wounded and gangs up on the one in the bigger vehicle. Fortunately, i am yet to see instances of public apathy.

Who took this video? Imo, the media themselves are very much guilty. They talk about how the general public do not come for help but the media will make the videos and simply watch the tamansha instead of actually going to help the needed persons.

^^ It was caught in cctv not by some media guy
Alright, but there are many examples where people have made videos instead of helping them. And These kind of people should definitely be punished.

It is a moral obligation to help someone; not a legal one (as per current laws). You can't punish people for not helping someone - we never know the reasons behind the same. KT's example is proof of that. You can only express _____ (insert a negative emotion of your choice) over the incident and do your bit towards the society to make this shift of attitude.

But the scenario is different when there is a big tragedy like a Train Accident near a village or Bomb Blast in Mumbai or Delhi. I have seen people literally coming out to help more than the authorities. I am not sure why everything changes when there is a accident involving a single person or similar scenario.

This is what no one is getting. Its nothing to do with shift of society attitude, moral obligation , caring, not caring, good people , bad people, bad attitudes blah blah PEOPLE ARE SCARED TO HELP!!!!! As they may get in trouble then. People just as caring as in west , just scared cos people will extort them and they get in trouble as out lined before. Especially in less major cities and rural areas. Yes middle of connaught place help but move out a few miles all changes. Only similar comaprison I can think is in west is were person getting attacked by group of thugs, people walk staright by and dont help often, cos scared for themselves. When people are scared..........

People watch too many movies and TV where a person helping out is victimized - it does happen but is very rare, specially when an accident happens with hundreds of witnesses in broad daylight. Where people are scared to help is when it happens in isolation and the police attitude to look for a scapegoat is the major problem there - agree with you on that point. The vast majority of people are good, caring, and helping individuals - they get scared by some rare horror stories and make the decision not to do anything with what happened if they are in doubt if their story can be backed up.

You act is if accidents happen all in city centres, loads happen in less built up areas and a lot on high ways, plus more rural areas etc. People are scared, who says there are hundreds of witnesses, maybe none or 2 or 3 at most. Police dont give a dammn and will use it to extort money from you, happens all the time. Look only other day parents took their 10 year old child to police as she had been raped. The police told the parents to go away and locked up the kid. Thats the rubbish we deal with and people expect citizens to wait and help police!!!

Like KT mentions - undesired consequences of being a good samaritan. In a bomb blast or natural calamity, there are none.

You can't be so blanket sure - undesired consequences are part of the reason. If you can't hold your morals at a tough time what good are your morals?

This. These are the kind of examples we have seen/heard while growing up. It will take some time (perhaps a generation) to observe a noticeable change. It's unfair to entirely blame someone for behaving the way they act based on what they learnt growing up from their surroundings. its not like they are intentionally evil or something.
