There is a term in cricket called - "Bad Patch"

Rohit has big temperament issues. But is more talented than Raina (who is a harder worker) You make a pitch which seams and bounces and i will take Rohit over Raina anyday. I can remember that rohit innings along with sachin in the 2008 commonwealth game series final v australia. It was perfect and technically sound. I cant remember a similar innings from Raina in australia. I mention australia because its where the next world cup is going to be. It would be interesting to compare the stats of Raina and Rohit when they batted in the top order (top 4 for arguments sake). I remember Raina batting at 3 and then being a miserable failure having to face the new ball. For WC 2011 he was shunted down to 6 where it worked for him (or has to date, who knows what will happen in the era of two new balls in ODIs.) anybody have the stats on the position in batting order?

Sharma will be 30 in 3 years time and people still call him a "talented youngster" Just give it up and move on.
He is still only 25. :hmmm:

DK scoring runs in IPL, he should comeback to team India, he will do well. Rohit doing well in IPL, he is crap, is of no use. On topic, he did well to pull things back. Other rookie captains could have fallen apart after the initial assault. Interesting to see how he does in future matches. Who knows captaincy could just be the spur to turn around his career.

which is why you need to compare like for like batting positions or there abouts. Its fair to say both Rohit and Raina have strong international T20 records. Healthy average and a healthy strike rate. In the ODIs though we need to know what Raina averaged at 3. T20s both Rohit and Raina good. Rohit much better outside India. I remember Raina batting at 3 in the T20 world cup in 2009 in England. He was so **** even the Indian fans at the stadium had written him of by the last T20 India played. Tests. Raina flop and crappy ranji average. Rohit multiple time Ranji winner but untested in international arena. ODIs Raina does appear to be better. Then again Rohit has opened for India while Raina could not hack it at 3. IPL stats for both are quite similar.

Its does not appear, there is a gigantic difference between the two in ODIs

Its does not appear' date=' there is a gigantic difference between the two in ODIs[/quote'] hardly gigantic Rohit averages 31 with the bat, Raina averages 37 with the bat. While Raina is clearly better its not as if he is running away with it. even there Rohit does lead Raina in some aspects such as batting average away to WI, Aus, Zim and even has a better batting average than Raina in India. The only gigantic difference is in their ranji averages where one averages 57 and the other averages 42.

Sharma averages 9 in South Africa 12 in Srilanka..will cut some slack on his England's performance as it was just one innings. Raina averages 39 there. Please give it up. He is a sh** batsman who has no real technique when the need of the hour is surviving and rotating strike. He looks good on the eye while playing inside out cover drives or blind pulls or lofted shots. That is hardly a parameter to judge the standard of batsman. Probably he is good on surface with bounce just bounce and a bit of pace. You cannot pick a batsman based on that one strength. Sure he will get his test chance ahead of Raina. He better capitalizes on it.

did not Raina actually have his test chance and fail spectacularly ahead of Rohit? or are there some other matches in the test arena for Raina to fail? The fact is 31 average is not the be all end all. there is still a good chance he might make it in the ODIS. Now i wont pick him for the champions trophy squad. But looking at the wickets in England i wont pick Raina either. As mentioned earlier in the cricket section. Runs scored in England in June (he failed in the 2009 T20 WC was in june) and September (which raina has done) are two totally different scenarios due to the weather changes which happen on this island. and considering this is the IPL section, the fact is Rohit has a better all around T20 record in the internationals compared to Raina having played some curical knocks in the T20 world cup in 2007 when it mattered. They both have a similar IPL record and this season Rohit in the IPL is doing much better than Raina. Rohit average 52 Raina average 22 (this season)

Agree. His technique is just not good enough at international level and he cannot rotate the strike to save his life. And why the comparison with Raina who is not test standard anyway? If the Nohit fans think he is so good then compare him with Pujara and the silence will be deafening as the contrast in abilities and temperament is embarrassing.

Exactly. Nobody wants Raina in Tests. Kohli made debut after Rohit. Already played some mega blockbuster knocks like 183, 133 registered so many 100s. Rohit is still struggling to hold onto his spot. Difference is Kohli showed remarkable consistency so much so he reached world no.2 in ICC ranking for ODIs. Even now he is no.3. What is the highest rank Mr.talent reached. 32.
