I would have liked to see Shami Ahmed but he hasnt been playing in IPL and we dont know his current form. Blame Gambhir for that. Mishra will float them up and get smoked never is , was , a short format bowler. One could make an argument for him being in test team(not much of an argument for me) but in odis no way. Flaots it up and will go distance, plus lets not even start on his fielding. People say dont abuse yopur team mates. But if mishra wobbles to ball and lets one through legs, needs roasting

He is always in good form in IPL on pitches where he gets turn. He was useless in England last tour and it wont be much different this time around too.

I can imagine they are looking for an opener with a good technique and temperament who can play the new ball in England. With two new balls rule, there will be some swing and seam movement for the first 15-20 overs and so they are looking for a batsman who will fit that bill. Vijay has a decent technique among openers in India. Gambhir has failed in overseas conditions.
