Your theory about RR players providing more value because they pick small names and provide more worth is not directly true. In IPL, even the non-players (big names) provide value despite not playing the tournament for reasons I have detailed in my earlier posts. Take some time to think over it. FYI - Royals are (and will be) my most favorite team of the IPL for precisely the reasons you mention. Sorry , when it's owner is in BCCI , its difficult to make it as a bench mark. Same applied to RR till Modi was in power.

Yaar - tu bhi na :poink: I based them as a benchmark for their consistency. If what you say is true, none of the teams in the IPL can be a benchmark - because they are as much in the collusion as the defaulter.

Sure RR was "smart" in picking good players but the big teams did their fair share of "smartness" by picking big names (who ultimately didn't play most games). Why would one do that? Because if you have extra money you can afford to buy players so that other teams do not have access to them. I call that "smart" as well. I wouldn't call someone who has won a Man of the Tournament in the multi nation tournament that too in the same country were IPL was held a "no name". Not a "big name" but calling him a "no name" is over simplification. Look, there can be multiple benchmarks. So you can be right as well and of course I do agree that CSK is the most consistent and best team in IPL. But in terms of management of resources or really productivity (output/input), I would put RR the highest. Players have made their names and turned from an average cricketer to a quality player. Watson is the best example. This is no debate but a matter of prospective......

His biggest problem at that time was fitness. You look at Mumbai Indians the likes of Johnson $100,000 D Smith $50,000 Kulkarni (ranji player) Tare (ranji player) have all done reasonably well. Yes Maxwell has been a flop and the others like Coulter Nile have not been given chances. But RR in 5 seasons RR for the first time are in the playoffs. That moneyball approach does not work every season. Mumbai have been in the playoffs or later stages on a much regular basis. Thats eactly what money buys you. Consistent performances.

All I'm trying to say is that the definition of productivity in IPL is not the number of runs scored or wickets taken. You can be on the bench and still be productive. Very pumped up in a league match.

I guess he meant regarding the amout being spent for the training facilities, employing experts (rememebr MI has some n number of coaches). But everything wont become right since 'The Wall' has said it. Probably he is making a lead for whining when he loses to MI or if at all later to CSK. Or even he is trolling his own owners... And regarding mind games, thats not going to fuc*king work with CSK as Dhoni might stay in the same course of mind even if Rahul said Sakshi was found in Vindoo'a appartment.

Sorry but its more like the team has come together this season than a money-ball team, do it for consecutive seasons and we'll talk about it. Its more like a case how DC came together in 2009 as a team.
