As everybody knows we are a country of hypocrites and fake rituals. We think these things are unholy but still thousands of crores rupees involved in both of these activities. So why not legalize them? It will work for both people and govt. It will be better for law enforcement agencies too, rather than working on these trivial issues, they will better be utilized in something more urgent issues. People here are more intelligent and knowledgeable than me, so need views and opinions of everyone here. Discuss.

We shouldn't legalise prostitution because 80% girls today are forced into prostitution by good for nothing pimps, against their will. Legalising it will result in more innocent girls being forcefully dragged into it. Such practices should be made legal in a place where there is acceptability for it. Not in a place like India.

I agree completely, however even if betting is legalized players and people involved with teams should not be allowed to participate because they could still manipulate results. They've also banned lotteries in at least some Indian states which I'm also against.

Betting in sports? Can be legalised but it'll not stop spot fixing and worldwide betting on it... Legalised betting doesn't offer spot fixing odds...

If I'm not wrong, it will have the exact opposite effect. It will also lead to better laws to deal with offenders.

As I siad in another thread, betting will not be legalized because there were reports that money made in betting is channeled to terrorist organizations. In such a scenario the Govt. will not even think about legalizing it.

But it would at least make it more transparent. If there are legal ways to do it people would be less inclined to do it the illegal way and besides even if it doesn't reduce instances of illegal betting/fixing, why should it be banned? It's not wrong, it's recreation :)

I keep saying this, the problem we face is implementation of existing laws. Police & judiciary barely function, we'll need to get those in order if we expect new laws to deliver their promises.

Over 80% of Indian businesses across all sectors fail to pay proper taxes, bribe off regulators and politicians etc. Legalising betting won't change anything. Criminals run businesses from real estate to metal fabrication. Honest and strong financial, legal & justice and police scrutiny will go a long eradicating these parasites.

We don't have to legalize betting hoping it would reduce the amount of illegal betting, fixing etc.I would like to see it legalized for the simple reason that I don't think it should have been banned in the first place, there is nothing unethical or wrong about betting to begin with, just like lotteries, casinos etc. Of course there are idiots who get greedy and lose all their money on these things and starve to death but why should sane people who just want to have some fun sacrifice their fun for them? If anything I think legalizing betting would reduce the influence of illegal betting syndicates because more people would choose to do it legally rather than risk doing it illegally, of course the administration must be good otherwise the underworld will just collude with the betting organization, players and team owners.

Legalization would only make the situation make worse. As it means every (common) people can have access to it. These things can easily destroy your lives and thus it's better to prevent it and try to limit the users in it already illegally.
