That should have been the time to try people out. Including captain. He has to justify his place. He has good record in T20? 11 single digit scores out of a total 28 innings he has played. How is that reflecting his consistency? Even in the IPL we use .. he failed in all crucial matches.

While Gambhir may be good in certain aspects Yuvraj simply loses it . We are left with Kohli, Raina.
Number Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 His captaincy was no doubt good. Much better than Virat. But as far as Indian captaincy goes, he is far behind in the race as his place is not secure. Dhoni sucks as a t20 captain and WK-Batsman and must leave the team. I don't mind Virat captaining T20 team if Dhoni goes.

He could be a brilliant player he's not fit to lead a side. He could've lead a side swearing at U19 fellow team members but he cannot continue doing this in the senior team... We are talking about captaincy here not how Tailuted one player is.. So even if Nohit doesn't gets chance to play in the team doesn't means that Kohli is can become captain in future.. A person who swears on his own players and usually betrays his emotions quite easily on-field is not fit to lead the seniors team.. Make anybody else a captain not this RAT...

Agreed that he lacks maturity, but give the kid credit for batting under pressure and for having an overall great batting performance in the IPL. The guy played like a champion in the last game. Rohit showed maturity (although spending 2 minutes setting the field on the last ball was a citi moment of comedy), and had some decent knocks, but did he show up with the bat when the pressure was on? In any case, the good news for Indian cricket is that both of them had respectable seasons and showed different skills as captains. One of them showed nerves (let's be honest, we thought he would choke) and the other one showed maturity.

Didn't we do well in SA in 2007 and didn't Dhoni get the credit for the team doing well then? Then he has to take the blame as well for the last 3 failures. One failure can be ok but 3 back to back failures in a format where teams have changed their World T20 winning captains in the subsequent tournament? Crazy (though not crazier than retianing a guy who has led the team to back to back whitewashes though) As for nitpicking on how many we won and lost in a tournament, by that yardstick SA would be the most successful team of ICC tournaments! Fact remains we failed to make the knockouts on last 3 occasions and the captain has to go, especially given his own pathetic personal performance. And the last part about us playing T20s infrequently is precisely the reason we need to try out different players in that format. Also, despite persistent failures Dhoni is perhaps the only one who has played in nearly T20 we have played! Excellent post. Absolutely no idea how anyone can defend Dhoni in T20Is. We all know the reasons this guy has managed to retain the captaincy for so long so no point talking about that, but just on cricketing merit, a second rate T20I player (no matter how many trundlers he beats up in the tamasha tournament) who has led India to miserable failures in three consecutive tournaments should be shoved out of the team. This scumbag managed to retain the Test captaincy after 8-0 and home loss to England but ironically, he's actually a passable Test player despite his obvious technical weaknesses both as a batsman and wicket keeper (no more than passable and not a patch on top class players like Matt Prior but still). But in T20I cricket Dhoni is utter, stinking trash.

Big failures at that, especially against the Royals when there was hardly any pressure. Scores of 8,2 and 2 are just not good enough in the crucial part of the tournament. He was excellent in the group stages with the bat. Many match winning innings.

Mumbai on the other hand..had the best side in terms of bowling as well as depth in batting. I think it's unfair to judge captaincy in IPL because Rohit clearly had a very very strong team

And most importantly, a good captain will have luck on his side. Captaincy really involves a great deal of luck and certainly good captains have plenty of them.

To be honest, that shouldn't matter. When Dhoni started as a captain, his place himself was not secured. But he turned out to be a great captain and the added responsibility only made his game better. That's they key characteristics of being a good captain.
