1983-2011 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 A 31-year-old American tourist was allegedly gang-raped by a truck driver and two accomplices near the popular tourist destination of Manali, 272km from Shimla. On Monday, the victim and some of her friends had gone to Vashisht village, 4 km from Manali. Later in the day, she wanted to return to Manali and when she did not find any other mode of conveyance she decided to hitch a ride. At 1 am she flagged down a truck and before she realised what was happening the driver pulled up at a secluded area and then he and his friends raped her one by one for an hour. They dropped her at Beas bridge at 3am, but not before they had robbed her off her camera, mobile phone, iPad and whatever currency notes she was carrying. From the bridge she walked to the nearest police station from where she was eventually sent for medical examination. The medical test at the civil hospital in Manali has confirmed that the woman had been sexually assaulted. The local police had apprehended three youths, but the victim refused to identify them. Texy Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 As reprehensible as this is...one must say she made an extremely poor choice accepting rides from 3 random guys at 1 am. If a 30 yr old Indian woman get into cars with 3 random men in the middle of night in LA or Detroit or NYC...similar fate befalls her. Unless you have been living in a bubble, one must be aware of the reality. It's a sad situation but nonetheless a reality.
maniac Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Dumb woman but still a disgraceful act....Hope those f***rs get what they deserve....This is getting international attention from what I can see...and since she was an american citizen,government will definetely react quickly to this....The culprits might just get the ideal punishment for an act like this.

zumi Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 anywhere in the world, being a woman and getting into a truck with three truckers (who have reputation of using prostitutes and being away from home for long periods) at 1am is not going end well. also in India, so many of these truck drivers are from outside the state and hence can get away easily without being identified.
