I think with them its more of a choking thing. Pak and SL have been very consistent without winning much. (pak won 2009 T20). But the quality is there. If anything India are extremely hit and miss under Dhoni. Either we win the damn thing (2007, 2011) or we dont make the final stages (2009, 2009 (champions trophy), 2010, 2012) . There is no middle ground. I am pretty confident if we do reach the semis, something will happen. Luck, good play or something else and we will lift the cup. But getting to the semis is a huge hurdle with Dhoni. We knows how to seal the deal. Cant has issues in getting to that point for some reason.
India havent done well in World T20s but has been consistent in ODIs even though we may not have won competitions. Like CB series and Asia Cup, we won games but didnt reach final because of NRR. At home, we have won most ODI series.

Look the bottomline remains. In the ODIs and T20s the ICC comps matter. Now i like the fact India are number 1 but thats a bonus. Judge India by their performances in the ICC comps. In the overall scheme of things Asia Cups and even the commonwealth bank series though good to have in the bag, do not matter. Dhoni can win as many T20 series but if he fails to get us to the semis of the 2014 T20 WC then its time to say goodbye. Thats 4 tournaments in a row. Even the ICC knows the rankings and bilaterals are a joke. the check for being number one is $175,000. I agree with VVS that Pakistan love utility players. Malik, Afridi, Razzaq, Hafeez. Thats not an India centric policy. Its just how they roll.

@Maniac well dont know about test cricket. But Pakistan have been pretty consistent in the ODIs and T20 tournaments since 2007 T20 world cup. Reaching the semis and finals on a regular basis. Test cricket to be fair he may have a point. I have not checked the stats. Pakistan to be fair did try out haider and the other Akmal brother who can keep well but his **** with the bat. He does have a point about Malik. But can see anybody else in the current pakistani team who does not merit selection. Or has been selected just cause he has done well only against India. Afridi has been dropped. Younis khan is gone. A lot of new faces.
Pakistan lost ODI series against SL, Aus, Eng in 2012. They only won Asia Cup and the series in India recently. They lost ODI series in SA as well. That's why they are ranked at the bottom. Sri Lanka lost to India 4-1 in their home conditions and lost all games in Asia Cup. Not sure what you mean they have been winning on a regular basis. :cantstop:

no i actually look at their performance in the limited overs in major competitions 2007 T20 WC (finals) 2009 T20 WC (won) 2009 Champions Trophy (semi) 2010 T20 WC (semi) 2011 ODI WC (semi) 2012 T20 WC (semi) Now that is called consistency. Not a single early exit in 6 years over 6 tournaments in the limited overs. Dont tell me you somehow rate the Asia cup :cantstop: (of which they are the current champions) The point is you cannot have such consistency if you have an India centric policy. Especially in the one days. Malik for eg is not part of the test side. Neither is Afridi.

Contrast that to India btw 2007 T20 WC (won) 2009 T20 WC (group stage) 2009 Champions Trophy (group stage) 2010 T20 WC (group stage) 2011 ODI WC (won) 2012 T20 WC (group stage) Now India have been more successful than Pakistan. No doubt in that. But there is no consistency. Either we win or we get dumped out early. No middle ground. As i have mentioned in this thread. If we manage to make to the semis, my money is on india lifting the cup. In that sense India are Binary, 0 (group stage) or 1 (win) . Only two states.

As I mentioned before credit where due to both SL and Pak for being consistent in such tournaments but sometimes the draw favors how far a team goes too...I mean take for eg;2011 WC we had to go through Aus in the Q.F where as Pak had WI and SL had Eng in those conditions....SImilarly in 2012 T20 WC India had to beat S.A convinvingly to make it to the next round which was always going to be a challenge.... I am not giving excuses for India or taking credit away from our neighbours but sometimes winning is all that matters in these tourneys than reaching the K.O stage

I'm not talking about T20s. I was talking about ODIs and how they have done recently. Why are you mentioning World T20s ?
