King Tendulkar Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I am strangley starting to think it is. As looking at the new geno in this team and how well we are doing the effect seems positive. They all look fit, good fielders and up for it. IPL means they are used to playing in front of big crowds, big audiences and big pressure. The pressure in IPL is big with constant pressure moments in matches. Thus playing for india is just replica of the pressure which they are now used to. They play without fear. Players coming from IPL hot bed walk in to india team and dont crumble under pressure To be frank never seen such a an indian odi team. Could become our best odi team ever. Playing with top players and against top players constantly has helped? Is IPL actually helping produce fearless players used to playing under big pressure against top players?
G_B_ Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Alec stewart made that point as well on TMS. Whats changed about this years IPL is that pitches have aided the bowlers a lot more. Which means our batsman especially have not simply feasted on pattas. Dhawan especially played on some very conservative pitches in hyderabad. Having said that these pitches in England are not your typical English pitches. There is hardly any swing and there is assistance for the spinners.
NareshK Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 It has its positives like Indian cricketers getting to play on the big stage in front of capacity crowds and in high pressure situations and learning from seniors and professionals around the world and also getting paid well for it but there are also some negatives. We just have to accept that IPL is also consumer driven and there is a demand for it, if you go by capacity crowds in stadiums and TV ratings. So it will continue to be played. We have to learn to take the bad with the good. :dontknow:
King Tendulkar Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Defo loads of negtives as well. But maybe positives outweighing negatives in terms of helping produce players ready to handle the heat of international cricket
rkt.india Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Thing is our batsmen in the past would rarely face world class fast bowlers before debut, so whenever they would make their India debut, they were always under huge impression of international fast bowlers. The effect of reputation of a bowler is not that on young Indian batsmen now because they are facing them in IPL already in front of a huge crowd under pressure. So, they are more calm nowadays and less deterred bu reputations.
G_B_ Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I personally wont read too much into it (ipl effect) we are in season 6 or past season 6 of the IPL and this is the first time we are doing ok after the IPL. Will be interesting to see how India has performed in the month of June since 2008 across the formats. I remember us doing poorly in a t20 wc in 2009 in england in june in the direct aftermath of the IPL
G_B_ Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Plus Dhawan aside, the likes of Rohit Kartick are not exactly youngsters. Rohit came into this tournament on the back of 80 plus odi games and Kartick has come in with 50 plus OID games. Jadeja 50 plus games Ashwin 50 odd games. Ishant 50 odd games. Only Dhawan Bhuvi and Umesh have played less than 50 odi games for India coming into the tournament. So its not as if we are talking about a totally young side. They might be young in age but there was international experience there. Now the T20 2007 side. Those guys were young with zero international experience.

Having said that these pitches in England are not your typical English pitches. There is hardly any swing and there is assistance for the spinners. Dhawan is continuing from his form that he had before IPL. He had already blasted that century against Australia. I don't think Dhawan's success has got anything to do with IPL.
King Tendulkar Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 But I do think it may be helping players have no fear of international players and be able to handle pressure better
King Tendulkar Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 As frankly a large amount of international cricket is to handle pressure
NareshK Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I personally wont read too much into it (ipl effect) we are in season 6 or past season 6 of the IPL and this is the first time we are doing ok after the IPL. Will be interesting to see how India has performed in the month of June since 2008 across the formats. I remember us doing poorly in a t20 wc in 2009 in england in june in the direct aftermath of the IPL India won World Cup in 2011 after IPL started. India has never been a consistent T20 side because we lack specialist T20 bowlers. Unless we find 2-3 bowlers who can bowl yorkers, variations consistently, we will always struggle in T20s and death overs in ODIs. We usually make up for it in ODIs with our batting unit but in T20s, its more difficult because even one over makes a big difference.
G_B_ Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 i guess lets see what happens in the future. Maybe we are seeing the first IPL generation or players who established themselves in limited overs in the aftermath of the IPL from 2008. The likes of Sachin Yuvi Sehwag Gambhir were permanent fixtures in the ODI/T20 side before IPL. Maybe we need to wait 4-5 years for the IPL generation 1 to seal its stamp and see how they perform. @raghav point noted.
DomainK Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 This season of IPL did a world of good to Rohit Sharma. He matured in one single season. He took to captaincy like a fish to water and found that he flourishes under pressure.
someone Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Of course, all cricket helps and IPL is certainly the most complex level of cricket available in Indian domestics. It's good for everyone, crickets, grounds, fans. Our grounds have also become better due to IPL.
Sidhoni Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 To be frank never seen such a an indian odi team. Could become our best odi team ever.
JaFanatic Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 if india wins yes :agree: if we lose no :headshake:
vvvslaxman Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Not really. Dhawan didnt play much this IPL. Jaddu was already in form. .Moreover. if at all IPL helps that should help in T20 games where we are still languishing. India is a form team. If they are in form and play their A game, they look very good. Most of us predicted doom because we were not sure how our top order would go. There was an element of uncertainty..
