Tendulkar_Bhai Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Cant help thinking that he could be our weakest link, fair play to him for taking his chances during the friendlies on flat pitches, but he since has not been tested due to the top order and before the tournament we would have laughed at the thought of him being in the team as a batsman as he is not good enough. Early on his career he was unable to find the boundary but IPL has given him confidence opening the batting, however with Jadega not being the greatest batsman I think Vijay in DK's position would be a better bet should the openers depart early on.
saneindian Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Did you miss the twin 100 in practice matches when the team was in pits? Yes warm up matches, but what it showed was he was serious about taking his chances. Last two matches, has remained not out but showed enough resilience to send a message that he's serious now and will not let go of this opportunity. Has added strength to our fielding unit and the middle order with him in form looks stronger right now. Why not wait for him to "fail on bowler friendly tracks" before calling him a passenger?

FIelding ability should have no real bearing for an unproven batsman he has to score runs all over first. I dont rate Vijay much either but he is the only other real batsman in the squad I think its close between them batting wise.

So on the basis of tour scores of 106*, 146*, 14, 51*, 11* , you decided DK was a passenger?
Crookbond Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 DK is not a passenger. He's a beetle leaf seller. :hehe:

G_B_ Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 he only just regained his place and has scores of 14, 51*, 11* Maybe we need to talk when he has a series of failures? Its fair to say that Rohit and Dhawan combo as openers has ensured most of the times the middle order is not under any strain when they come in. DK has benefited from it. But you cant say he is a passenger. There is just no data to suggest this.

vvvslaxman Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 DK is the perfect bridge between Top order and Dhoni/Raina. Good player under pressure. Good man to have when there is a collapse. M Vijay simply is not good in strike rotation. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=299296
