someone Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Now, it's really clear that Dhoni is the greatest captain India produced. He has made Team India No. 1 in Tests, ODIs. WCs in T20s, ODIs. Champions Trophy as well. There is no other captain who has achieved as much as him for us. And even being the greatest captain in modern times can also be debatable.
vvvslaxman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 lol.. MSD is one of a kind in cricket history.. Hits extreme highs.. also extreme lows.. But at this moment his highs outweigh his lows clearly. Under Ganguly we lost like 9 finals in a row.. His team never hit the rock bottom like Dhoni's team did. Also his team never hit the highs that Dhoni's team hit. Which captain you would prefer? One who is only there or there about or one who can win the world or lose everything.. repeating the post here.

Every captain has suffered losses so the argument that Dhoni has suffered extreme lows doesn't really stand out and nor is exclusive. His highs are certainly exclusive and something which we never thought would have thought would have happened when we appointed Dhoni as captain starting 2007.
Sidhoni Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 No captain bounced back like this after hitting rock bottom.
vvvslaxman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I will take highs with lows than constant mediocrity. +1 SA will be dying to have someone like him.. They wouldn't mind losing a few test series :cantstop:

You give dhoni a young team and he will get the cup for you. 2011 was where every one was in prime form. But 2007 and 2013 proves my point and he likes it that way because he like chocking the opposition when runs are needed think he is the only captain after tiger who think fielding is important compare that to ganguly who cant even chase he would have asked an youngster to do it for him. Ganguly is good with lot of stuff but not fielding and strategies in ODIs.
someone Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 The idea of extreme lows is also puzzling. Surely not winning any major trophies must be the worse out there and Ganguly time was always a case of that. So near yet so so far.

Sidhoni Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 People might argue about his test and t20i record but anyone who thinks he is not the greatest ODI captain is surely blind.
ravishingravi Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Our greatest captain maybe. Definitely ODIs and T20s. Greatest modern captain. No way ? But his trophy cabinet keeps him in contention.
vvvslaxman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Knowing Dhoni's pattern, there is a big loss around the corner for us :winky: . Mentally prepared.. i will have hope that there will also be a huge win around the corner.. Hope we win the test championship that they are planning. :two_thumbs_up:

vvvslaxman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Did we loose any tournament after 2007 wc ? I am including tests as well. We got upto no.1 ranking. won world cup.. Then we plummetted whitewashed in England both in ODI and Tests. T20 as well. Then whitewashed in Australia. Eliminated first round CB series followed by Asia cup. Only sliverlining was series win against Windies.
jalebi_bhai Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Still Ganguly for me......he may have over-stayed his time in the Tamaasha League......but it was under Dada that we truly started playing fearless cricket......he ushered us through the volatile period of the match-fixing saga and truly made us believe......we went from being a bunch of domestic bullies under Azhar to serious contenders on all fronts under Ganguly........Dhoni has been a bit fortunate in the sense that he has had the chance to pick his players from a better pool of talent......Even under Ganguly......we had to carry a few passengers like Mongia, Gavaskar, Ratra, Karim, Dahiya, Bangar, Badani, Pappu Patel mk. 1 (none of them particularly bad players, just not good enough)......... This is the way I see it......Kapil's reign showed us what we were potentially capable of.....Ganguly's reign brought about the crucial change in mindset that Indian cricket needed at the time......Dhoni delivered.......the stats back Dhoni.......but stats don't reveal the whole picture......

Also.. Parthiv patel was persisted with by Ganguly.. Let us not forget he had the services of Anil Kumble.. a world class spinner. With Srinath and Zaheer our bowling was never berated like our bowling is being berated now.
jj_28 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 History will only remember the highs not the lows and the highs are He has made Team India No. 1 in Tests, ODIs. WCs in T20s, ODIs. Champions Trophy as well. A 4-0 loss away to England or Australia wont even be mentioned

We had old team and also openers were in bad form and no one was there to take shine off the ball. captaincy ambitions of sehwag and gambhir which didn't help either. But the south african series is challenge for us lets see how it goes. I am still not convinced abt murali vijay as opener outside india. But to put it bluntly we indians most of us dont like tests. We were never good except the ganguly era.

Hopefully he is good enough to see off the shine. When our openers do well Indian team is a different animal.
