Also if it is a flattish wicket as the Australia series a spinner has a better chance picking wicket of them than an Ishant or Yadav. Even I am not saying he will pick truck loads of wicket, but he can be a good support bowler who will be able to keep tight lines and pick the odd crucial wickets.

It think the playing 11 vs south africa will be the same as the playing 11 that won the champions trophy except vijay tendulkar and pujara in for raina, sharma ,and kartik. Sharma may not be that great but he is predictable which is what dhoni likes about him. Unfortunately that's also what the opposition like about him. But the spin duo of Jadeja and ashwin can cause a lot of problems to south africa if you look at the success that bowlers like harbhajan, herath, hafeez and ajmal have had when they toured their. Yadav and kumar will do well IMO. The bowling is overall is good. Batting looks a little unpredictable with jadeja tendulkar and vijay their.

A lot of our players have never played in SA. We will loose badly, with best the best result being a draw in one of the tests.

Carnish as always living in dream world, and when his predictions fall flat - he will come and say - "Oh I was just being optimistic, I wasn't saying it will surely happen" :hysterical: carnish - you have to admit, you have done this many times.

Carnish is sort of right actually. Morkel has been relatively- i use this word again- relatively- normal against strong batting lineups, averaging 25-30 with the ball against them recently. Steyn, as Steyn does, picks up a boatload of wickets at 22-23 against strong lineups as well. The key is to not let Philander succeed because he is a bit of a mini-McGrath who cashes in from being seen as relatively harmless compared to Steyn and Morkel. Its him who ends up taking almost as much wickets as Steyn at a better average that sinks the opposition. If we can neutralize Philander, we have a fighting chance. And i agree with that.

i hope zak is fully fit by the tour starts,he has enough time..cmmon zak,give it all one last time.. bhuvi,yadav,zak,fatso appears to be more potent..zak`s experience will be handy and of course the smith factor,if zak aint fit,better play shami/aaron than pishant

Philander is the key. India have to see him off. He bowls awkward lines and lengths and gets the ball to wobble either way.

IMO india are better off taking a gamble and attacking Philander with the new ball. Even if it means losing a few wickets. You cannot let him settle down. In county cricket many sides did that with good to bad results but you cannot let him settle down and bowl the lines he wants to bowl. Dhawan will have to attack him with some unorthodox shots. Vijay (has earned his chance as much i dont think he will do well) Dhavan Pujara Sachin (i hope he retires as i dont think he will be any good, hope he atleast gets a 40 plus average) Kohli (a batsman, Tiwary, Rohit, DK, Rahane, or somebody) Dhoni Jadeja Bhuvi Umesh Ishant/Shami I dont think spinners will get any purchase. Sir can be used to choke runs from one end. Anything with the bat is a bonus. Dont think India can afford Sir at 7. Need a proper frontline batsman in. Ashwin will be in my squad. Its also time India move on from Zaheer. He seems to go from one injury to another.

@finey ... Yeah I do that I agree, but I say what I feel rather than saying what's everyone is saying just cause it sounds logical. And yeah, ask slickr, he will tell ya most times what I write in one or two lines is just for jinxing. On this occasion I do feel that Indians having faced a lot of steyn and morkel in IPL and other events would be familiar and will play them well. However philander being an unknown entity may trouble us a little more. Of course we need to play all 4 of them well including kallis but I think it will be basically how we play Philly.

And i agree with that.[/quote'] Exactly what I meant, though about steyn I feel we will play him better this time because most of our players are more familiar with him in recent years. It can backfire though if we get a really green wicket, where both steyn and philander will become monsters.
