In any case, the team was relatively inexperienced for the 2009 CT - irrespective of Watson's billing.

Ponting stuck to a formula that worked for him more often than not,dhoni would innovate from time to time sometimes it came across dumb like bowling in lords,etc but credit where due tried some different stuff....don't recollect ponting ever innovating.

you dont know that hussey lead this team in NZ and lost 3 - 0. he sent a sms to ponting which said. come back and take your job. after 2008 then won the ICCCT and then also won a test series in SA. the 2nd one is yet to be achieved by a team other than 2004 in England

Ponting is more of a traditional captain. He had very simple plans, and he had an amazing squad, who did the work well, that was assigned. Dhoni, is a street smart. He had very inconsistent players, and so did the results. He, as a captain has done a lot of unbelievable things. Ponting had wayyy better results, but many will have Dhoni as an inspiration. :nice:
