Executioner Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 RIP SLPL 2012-2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/sri-lanka-premier-league-2013/content/current/story/652407.html The second edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) has been scrapped after the Twenty20 tournament's franchises failed to pay Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) their dues. In a press release, SLC said the franchises have "failed to pay the franchise consideration [fee] for this year and more importantly have failed to deposit with SLC the bank guarantees to secure the player payments", and so the league "will not take place" this year.
G_B_ Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I feel Pakistan SL and BH should just merge their leagues together and form one league. pak based franchises in UAE, SL have kandy and colombo and BD can have Dhaka and Chittagong or something like that.

They wil not even have enough fund to arrange transport for different venues.

Mahaa Raavana Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Excellent decision by SLC to make SLPL a biennial event :two_thumbs_up: We don't want to make SLPL, just another stale premier league like IPL. Some times less is more...
Executioner Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 then its just not meant to be for sl..... ofcourse Unlike in India and Bangladesh, Srilanka fails to generate crowds during international cricket matches(unless its a t20) so its hard to expect fans to turn up for domestic T20s. Even someone like Murali opted to play in CPL
jalebi_bhai Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 :((......I was eagerly waiting to watch Uruva Underwear Banyans vs Kandy Knightriders this year.......I am sad now......

Even someone like Murali opted to play in CPL nope, you got that one wrong bro...If the national team is playing against another country in a limited overs match, you always get packed stadiums... SL is too small a country for people to have a regional bias or rivalries. That's the reason we didn't get great crowds last year in SLPL.

Mahaa Raavana Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 that was in the past' date=' the crowds in the last NZ series were comical[/quote'] :whack: We had bucket loads of rain in every single game...who'd wanna go and get drenched...
Mahaa Raavana Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 maybe cause you played the tournament at the same venue? We played in two venues last year, colombo and pallekele.IIRC the numbers in pallekele were better than colombo..so you probably have a point...
StriKe Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 So there is no SLPL..Will BCCI plan some India A/B/C/D matches against Lankans during those months
