Swing_n_Speed Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Yo all howdy. So I'm looking to invest in a new laptop/ultrabook. Not sure weather I should go for a laptop or an ultra-book. I own a tablet, so portability of the new device will not be a big concern. My needs are pretty simple, I want something I can game on and multitask. I'm a PS3 and an Xbox gamer, looking to maybe just maybe play something on a PC. So what do you guys think I should go for? Or should I wait for the latest Haswel processors to show up in Lap's/Ultra. That said I don't have a huge budget so I'm not sure if upfront the new Haswel processors will make products costlier or cheaper. Oh and most likely I'll be buying the laptop in India/Dubai, to take advantage of the currency situation. Just that I'm in the market for a new laptop and figure while I'm at it, might as well look for a device on which I can game a bit.

I would suggest get a 3rd generation processor the 4th generation is more about saving power(atleast that what I remember please do some research) and get a great Graphics card .I wouldnt buy the laptop that comes with graphic card If I were you. One more thing wait for few more months that when 3rd gen will be cheap. The 4 th gen hasnt picked up yet in the market yet. The manufacturers are playing smart here they are slowly phasing out the older 3rd gen.

That's relevant, my i7 laptop has been having heat issues a few months after it was purchased in 2010. A motherboard replacement by Dell did not help. I have had to limit the peak cpu to avoid the auto-shutdown despite having an external cooling fan. I hope these machines have improved since then. One would think they test their products well enough before launch. Anyone else has experiences with i7s on laptops here ?

But then, I don't play games and specially not on my work laptop. It's also relatively new, so they might have fixed the problem. Doesn't your warranty cover automatic shutdown due to overheating - I know it's late now, but you said you've been having this problem from earlier.

Old guy Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 my sister has i7 based laptop form hp and it had heating issues too but does not shuts down and after cleaning it like once every 2 months now it never has problem i think newer chips are better but do u guys really need so much power in laptop ? go for laptop with better battery as gaming experience is never really good on these
