Yep, but i think the book makes it pretty clear that it goes much deeper than geographic advantage. ( I havn't seen the documentary though) and its really neat how the overlying factors are largely determinitive by human ability to harness its unique conditions and its limitations. Collapse is a great follow-up premise to GGS.

It explains origins of life, evolution scientifically and then goes on to give how natural resources are being used by humans and possible ways to conserve environment.
