hassan_113 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 There are a few examples of this below:- - Organisation of regular series v top teams home and away - Bringing through new talent when old talent has had its day - Fearless approach to batting - Pride in performance I wish I was in charge of the PCB. Would have the side in the top 3 in tests and ODIs within 3 years. However, with the incompetent buffoons on charge of Pakistan cricket that is a pipeline dream.
ravishingravi Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I think the problem is more fundamental than you might think. Cricket cannot be detached from the political situation in the country. Self belief is some what correlated to what is happening at social, political and economic level in the country. Second, I see serious lack of batting talent in the country. Lack of domestic structure and proper coaching really hurting Pak. cricket. Bowling talent is still there, but batting weakness more than nullifies it.
hassan_113 Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Yes it is true. As a fan of both sides, I see the "feel-good factor" that has come out of India for the last decade. The big difference in the early 90s was that Pakistan had batsmen who could score big. You can't win most games if the batting is so poor. Having no cricket at home hurts the team in terms of testing younger guys; they don't get to play in side games v touring sides. People talk about money, BCCI, sponsorship etc but I'm all honesty if one produces good results then the rest of the world will clamber to play Pakistan in longer higher profile test series. The role models rather than your Dravids and Anwars etc are more Afridi which is very sad indeed. I think the WI win was a step in the right direction but this side needs some series away from the UAE against some good opposition in alien conditions or India which isn't alien but is a very good test side. How much can one learn playing t20s and 50 over games and very little tests? I agree there are exceptions to the rule like Virat who are amazing in constructing innings but generally one needs to play longer games to understand the game. I don't think the understanding of the subtleties is there outside Misbah, some bowlers and Unar Akmal. There is a lack of intelligence in terms of appropriateness of an action in a given circumstance. Being "talented" and being able to hit any bowler anywhere is fine- but the TIMING (ie WHEN) the shot is played in the context of the game is key. We lack the basics of rotating the strike. It saddens me to say this but it will be a long time before we are truly a top side again. The infrastructure is poor and the Pcb is so bad that only because of the raw abilities of a lot of the players are we maintaining a reasonable middle position in world cricket.
ravishingravi Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 But if you look in totality, I can't imagine which other side would have performed so well in midst of so many events. Losing cricket home. 5 years and counting. Losing important players to match fixing and other scandals. Players defecting to ICL. But they have managed to win some important test series and some ODI tournaments and reached final 4 on more than one occasion. As mush as I agree with you, I think Pak. has really done remarkably well under the circumstances. I was expecting them to really struggle. But yes, they need batsmen and serious boost of confidence and self belief. Jamshed, Umar, Azhar, Amin, Shafiq, Sohail and maybe one or two others have to be exposed and persisted with for next 2 years.

It is very easy to say - I'll do this, do that but you have to realize the ground realities are different. The entire change in India is due to one factor only - money. I'll explain. - Organisation of regular series v top teams home and away In the 90s we didn't play so many tests cause people weren't that interested in us. We toured Oz in 1992 and then next in 2000. Now cause we have the cash (and they need it) we toured them in 2003,2007,2011 and next 2014and then 2018. - Bringing through new talent when old talent has had its day Money has led to proper infrastructure which leads to more new talent coming. Now the infrastructure in even mid level towns is pretty good so new talents are coming from there - Dhoni (Ranchi) , Pujara (Rajkot) , Jadeja (Rajkot) , Bhuvi (Meerut) - some main players of our team are from small cities. Earlier everyone was from Delhi or Bombay or Bangalore or ... you get the point. - Fearless approach to batting IPL. When you are chasing huge totals in front of thousands of supporters day in and day out it becomes normal. I'll add some other points Fielding Now BCCI can afford it, we have better outfields so the fielding is world class. Dhoni mentioned it in CT final. Experience Indian players play loads of u19/A tours and also share loads of time with international stars in IPL. So when they make their debut they already have a fair bit of experience and are not awed by international cricket. For Pakistan cricket to improve two things are required 1- Normalization of the entire situation. 2- Economic boom we had similar to the one we had starting from the 90s. That way the Pakistani cricket crazy middle class will grow and become richer leading to PCB getting richer leading to... you get the point. That's how BCCI became what it is today. Pakistan with the second biggest cricket following population should be able to replicate it (although to a lesser extent).
hassan_113 Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Money is important but I can tell you that the PCB isn't exactly poor. The political interference, sifarshi and also the lack of effort to view players in different parts of the country is to do with bad management.

G_B_ Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 In general the cricket world is getting more and more professional. Pakistan still have an element of being reliant only on talent. They still are a big force in T20 cricket.
Abhilash123 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Need to apply themselves TBH.... Need to play clever and fearless cricket...
srij Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 pakistan has a perfect captain misbah as they can get ,most odi wins after australia

I dont know if all Pak players are sold on the idea of using technology for self improvement and planning for an opposition ?
Haarkarjeetgaye Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Indians have gone their to set their education system right as well. Also to help revive their film industry. however unless Pakistan becomes a safe haven for sports, they arent going anywhere in the game
Hafeez Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Pakistan Team has done well in last few years to Asia cup Win World cup T-20 Semi final Won 3/0 vs england defeated India in India but was poor in CT-13 We lost CT-13 Because of Selection Umar akmal our best Batsman was not in Squad iam hopefully Amin.Haris,Sohaib maqsood Given a Long run all 3 are good Batsman,s Our bowling has always been brillent and still Brillent after Losing Amir/Asif even Umar gul back with Irfan and Junaid # Zulfiqar babar should be in Playing XI in Odi,Test,T-20 for next 6 month Rest Ajmal for next 6 Month
hassan_113 Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 I dont know if all Pak players are sold on the idea of using technology for self improvement and planning for an opposition ? Lack of professionalism. I have met them and some of them lack that confidence and killer instinct too.

However the losses in SA and CT are accurate. They show what was needed. There have been some slight rectifications made but still a lot of work is needed. Hafeez must not be near the test side or even ODI side. Haris Sohail and Umar Amin along with Jamshed and Umar and Misbah must play every odi. The test openers should be Jamshed and Taufeeq. They should have Wahab in tests instead of Tanvir Ahmed or Ehsan Adil. The deadwood needs to go: Hafeez and Gul for all forms except t20.
Vilander Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 pak are poor in cricket because of lesser phyical and mental ability..
