India's handling of Rahane

So i see that Rahane has not made it to the final and has not played a single innings in the List A tri series. I dont know what he has done to be dropped. In the Zimbabwe tour he played 1 innings in which he made a 50. So thats like 1 innings in 10 matches over a 3-4 week period. If you think Rahane is good enough then give him a fair chance. Thats 4-5 chances in a row. If you dont think Rahane is good enough, then dont give him a chance and dont select him for the squads and let him either get some rest at home or allow him the chance to apply to play county cricket in the UK (for which he is eligible now) Cause what happens every time is he sits on the bench for months. Then when he is given a chance he fails as he is badly out of form and most people on ICF claim he is no good. Its a no win situation for him. For the good of Rahane i hope he is not selected for team India for the next year. Its better if he is atleast playing domestics.

He should have ideally played CT ahead of Vijay, he did a good job last time around in England in 2011. Some good knocks in CT warmups would have meant him opening with Dhawan and not Rohit. Many players have made it to the team on basis of IPL, if same has to be applied to Rahane, he has probably been most consistent Indian batsman over last two seasons. I feel he deserves to be in our first choice eleven. If given as many chances, he will surely do better than Rohit or Kartik.

He made it to test team which most of his competitors have not, so he is not being left out, Guy like Dhawan after his initial failures was banished from even contention for two years mainly due to him looking over matched and overawed by international cricket, I think the way Rahane played in that delhi test is also being held against him. Karthik is in this team now as WK once Dhoni returns there is no guarantee he will be in the team. He started as an opener then backtracked saying he wanted to play in middle order so others got nod ahead of him. As we can see he is not a natural stroke maker and yet he has played more odis than Murali Vijay. He went from main eleven to not even making India A playing eleven that is a big fall. Only guy who I think got more chances is nohit, I have no idea why he is still getting so many chances.

Because he has been one of the most consistent batsmen since he has started opening and big reason we won both CT and WI triseries.

Rahane still has age on his side. Right now, we have several contenders for batting slots. ODI series with Aus will decide the right ODI squad. For tests, Rohit should debut against SA at #6.

Is he injured or something? How come Saha made into the XI when DK is already there. Rahane could have played.
They are giving chances to everybody. Today, it was Saha's turn. They have rotated all of them. Win or loss has not been mattered that is why we lost against Aus A in second match.

So you'll drop Rahane after one Test after hes been benched for so long

yeah but thats the thing. Rahane has not even faced a ball so far on tour. The only batsman in the squad. I can understand if he is not picked to the squad all together. I personally dont have high hopes for him in the tests. For his sake, i hope he fails badly in these tests. It will do his career good. Atleast he will be able to play the full ranji season starting in Sept rather than sitting on the bench for the ODIs v Aus and then SA

Yeah. They way Rohit batted on difficult tracks in WI, I cannot help but pick him ahead of Rahane who had a golden chance in Delhi test but looked out of depth. Rahane has not convinced me against genuine pacers till now.

point is if you want to drop him, drop him from the squad all together so that he is free to improve himself. If you want him to play then give him an extended run. Its pretty simple. No more sitting on the bench doing nothing

These A matches are going to prove much as one of them will be played on this pata.

He and Rohit will get their chances in tests once SRT retires. I dont think he is going improve or learn much now by playing Ranji trophy because after playing international cricket, FC looks too easy and you will have "be there done that" feeling because playing our FC cricket can only improve you that far. Once he gets more regular chances in tests then he will start improving both temperamentally and technically. One test is not enough to judge his talent and ability but it told you that temperamentally he was not ready enough like Dhawan was when he debuted in tests. If you remember Dhawan, he was like that when he debuted in ODIs.

I personally think he is better off playing the domestic ranji than sitting on the bench. Yes he has been there and done that but confidence does matter. Even the best of them get rusty for lack of match practise. In the case of Dhawan he came back directly into the team after a strong ranji outing.
