Aaku Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I don't know why people are criticising Sehwag. This seems to be a purely money related decision. He probably has more important halwai orders over the festive season in Najafgarh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk :whack:
gattaca Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 His eye is a major issue. Why doesn't he fix with a laser treatment? :dontknow: Laser might not be suited for everyone. Like me had to wear contacts. Playing cricket with contacts is difficult they get so dry you will hate it.
carnish Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Guys, stop Criticising ... Its our favourite Viru Paaji ... One of the best Test Players India ever had.
Lord Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 He was one of the main reasons we got to and maintained no.1 Test ranking for a while.sad to see people mocking him based on assumptions
AbhishekS Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Guys' date=' stop Criticising ... Its our favourite Viru Paaji ... One of the best Test Players India ever had.[/quote'] Absolutely correct. Let's just hope that he fixes all the issues he has (read eyesight) and comes back strongly. It's not correct to criticize him. He has selflessly done a lot to Indian cricket and is indeed an all-time legend, one of the best openers the world has seen and it's not correct to be enjoying his downfall. He has a major share (probably the biggest even) in the success Indian team tasted in the last 5 years. Viru at his best, if returns would be a treat for all Indian cricket fans. Lets just hope he doesn't give up due to his eyesight and also some unfortunate politics in the team and BCCI. Can't wait for the day when the Indian team has the openers listed as Sehwag - Dhawan. :D Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4
G_B_ Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Maybe sane can confirm but Viru did play a few games at 6 in the ranjis for Delhi. Maybe Viru does not want to open at Essex.
saneindian Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 Maybe sane can confirm but Viru did play a few games at 6 in the ranjis for Delhi. Maybe Viru does not want to open at Essex. Yep he did and hit a 100 batting at 6 in the only Ranji match he played last season. But that was before the England series, played the next 6 tests opening the innings , 4 vs Eng and 2 vs Aus before being dropped.
G_B_ Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I just think Viru wants to further his career as a middle order bat. While Essex needed and opener. I dont think he has the reflexes anymore.

I dont think he has the reflexes anymore. Don't think Dhoni will allow him to bat in the middle order at least till Sachin is around. If Sachin decides to move on, then there could be a chance or if he he scores tons of runs as a middle order bat.

I think he will still open in the T20s. But the tests he will drop down the order. will be interesting to see what happens at Delhi ranji this season. Delhi do have Chand who is an opener. They will also have GG. So Sehwag can play in the middle order if he wants.

I dont think batting in middle order will make a huge difference. After all, he played 6 home tests opening where bowl does not swing or seam much and opening is the best slot to bat on Indian pitches, mostly. Even SRT is batting in middle order but has not helped him. I dont see the hunger anymore in Viru.
b555 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 are you risking to drop dhawan or rohit for him in present scenario? no way!
Detonator Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 He played only 11 innings after his 219. Scored 96 and 30 after that. Those are good innings. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/35263.html?class=2;template=results;type=batting;view=match I don't think this justifies the reason for droping him. IMO, selectors shld ve picked him ahead of Rohit, atleast in LOI's. Hope he plays Ranji and get into test side. He could ve been used in middle order for SA tour.

I do think in India the ball does do something in the first hour. It swings around for sure

rkt.india Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 yeah but Viru v spinners >>>> Viru v pacers IMO. I do think in India the ball does do something in the first hour. It swings around for sure Not anymore. He gets on spinners most often trying to dominate which he cannot do nowadays that consistently and then he is not going face spinners in SA. IMO, he needs to change his game like SRT did. He can no longer play like a younger Sehwag hitting them at will. If he wants to play test cricket, he needs to start playing within himself by working on his defense.

Face a fresh Steyn Morkel and Philander with the new ball? or face the old ball batting in the middle order? As things stand india's number 6 is not sealed. It could be anybody.
