I don't know why people attach Sachin with longevity. He was in Don Bradman's all time XI when he was 25 years old.
That was still much later. Most people had him earmarked for greatness way back in the '92 tour to Australia. Same thing with Lara. There was this feeling and acknowledgment that these guys are special. They were great long before they had the stats and numbers.

if your peak is high enough, likely really high, then you have the inevitable off peak that is still better than or equal to the rest of the pack i.e. that's not the impressive part, or what some like to call longevity

i wanted to check if i had said anything on 'longevity' before. so i typed three words in google - indiancricketfans, goose, longevity and up this thread came. i find it a better way to search the forum than the search tool on here
