Bharat Nirmaan Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 US court issues summons to Sonia Gandhi in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case A federal court in New York has issued summons to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for "shielding and protecting" the leaders of her party who were allegedly involved in the anti-Sikh riots in India in 1984. The summons was issued by the US Eastern District Court of New York after a rights group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) and two victims of the riots filed a complaint before it. Reacting to the development, Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in New Delhi that they were not aware of any of these facts. "Summons issued almost 30 years after the event when the Congress president is on a medical visit is, to put it mildly, astonishing. Undoubtedly, appropriate legal action will be taken," Singhvi said. According to US laws, the summons needs to be personally served to Gandhi, who is currently in the US for medical treatment, before it can have any legal implications. In the September 3 class-action lawsuit filed in Eastern District Court of New York, SFJ and the two victims sought compensatory and punitive damages against Gandhi for her alleged role in "shielding and protecting" Congress leaders from being prosecuted for their "crimes against humanity." Source How can they interfere in our internal affairs? They have not issued any summons to Narendra Modi.
Bharat Nirmaan Posted September 4, 2013 Author Posted September 4, 2013 We should boycott America now.
DomainK Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 WTF!! What jurisdiction do they have to do this?
King Tendulkar Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Maybe they have some powers and jurisdiction over Italy?
Bharat Nirmaan Posted September 4, 2013 Author Posted September 4, 2013 WTF!! What jurisdiction do they have to do this? Exactly, when we demand to ban Modi for life, their attitude is like 'Dekhenge'. But when it comes to Sonia Ji they pressed panic button immediately. It should be Modi who should be named and shamed on international stage not our Sonia Gandhi. But they don't have guts, even after so many MPs wrote letter to Obama.
Raghav_12 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 This doesn't sound right. What kind of jurisdiction US have in this? Can Indian court issue a summon against Obama for killing so many people in Afganistan?

hhunaeh Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 This is a sneaky way of issuing summons. The correct way to issue summons would have been before she left for usa. This is pretty bad. We are not syria or libya.
diga Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 The summons was issued by the US Eastern District Court of New York after a rights group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) and two victims of the riots filed a complaint before it. :WTF: sonia was not even in any positiion of power in 1984

They let her in for medical treatment and then they let their courts take such an action. This case is not comparable to modi's case. So your sarcasm fails in this case.
